What do you expect from your LEB provider?

Reading through posts here amuses me... Some people seem to have unreasonable expectations for their LEB providers. So what do you expect when you spend a few bucks a month for a VPS? Full backups? 5 9s of reliability? Instant response on tickets?

I'm happy when I get refunded (thanks @jtodd) when providers choose to stop service.

Backups should be optional ( extra cost ), 1hr response time, and good up time at the very least.

  • You may want to review the previous discussions on this topic:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site:lowendtalk.com+expect+provider

Unfortunately most of those are on the older versions of the forums which appear to not be working currently. You may be able to pull them up via Google cache.

Could have sworn we discussed it on the current version of the forums as well but I can;t find it via a search.

  • Provide what is advertised
Respond to support tickets in a reasonable amount of time
    Report a reason behind downtime/reboots. (Like https://hostigation.com/billing/announcements.php https://securedragon.net/announcements.php )
    Be honest
Keep performance good enough to use the VPS for most services you would run on a LEB.

What is a reasonable amount of time in your opinion? Like in hours.

I actually don't mind downtime (i.e. 15 minutes to reboot). And I hope tickets can answered in 6 hours, non-urgent ones in 12-24 is fine by me.

  • I expect 110% uptime, 110% refund if they don't meet that downtime, and ticket response in 110 seconds or less.

it depends on the ticket and what I use the VPS for. 2 hrs is usually about how long i'll tolerate if it's unexplained downtime on any of my non-redundant VPSs.

We had a thread on this, try searching.
