Sharing Dedicated Server

Hello all,

There's any easy way to share a dedicated server?

I saw SoYouStart dedicated (https://www.soyoustart.com/ie/order/soYouStart-mobile.xml?reference=173sys10#/configuration-and-resume) and really liked it, but the price is too high for me, so I want to share it with 3 other people, there's a way to do that?
4Gb RAM and 1TB each and 1 physical core (2 logical).

  • Split it up into VPSs using something like Proxmox?

  • Only if you trust the people you share it with.

    It's paid, isn't?

    Why do you say that?

Proxmox is free and there is even a pre made template on SoYouStart so its easy as selecting it to install on the server, The only thing is setting up the IPs etc but its not hard to find a tutorial about there mac addressing.

If anybody has shell access to your server and/or has the ability to download and run programs on there, they can use your server to DDOS or send spam mail.

The best way, IMO, is to use some virtualization solution and create VM-s for each of this people. This will ensure at least some level of isolation. I, for some reason, prefer to use centos/libvirt...

But you still have to trust the people you are give access to, because it is too easy to abuse such VM and cause issues for others or cause service suspension/termination for the whole server because of abuse.
