I just took my last dual Opteron 2300 series server out of service from active nodes, and the backup node with dual 2350's is getting an E3 brother.

The key to putting your own equipment together is using compatible parts, so extra caution while you earn your wings for sure!
Exactly. On another note i just came across these

That's quite pricey for those! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373211-001-SAS-SATA-3-5-Hard-Drive-Caddy-Fr-HP-Proliant-ML350-ML370-DL380-DL360-/300620495766?pt=UK_Collectables_HardDriveEnclosures_RL&hash=item45fe60bb96 is less than half, and amazon.com has some even cheaper, though I'm not sure how shipping would be for you.
I dont know if they support the G7 series though, cant find any info.
