Firefox Crash 512 MB RAM, VNC Server/Light weight remote desktop O.o
Hi,
I am trying to install a lightweight desktop on my Debian 7 64bit, but the x2go repository I tried to use is not longer available. Here: https://freevps.us/thread-11689.html
I am trying to load html5 applets, but after awhile firefox exists or the tab crashes.
Additionally, I have tried using Ubuntu 16.04 with gnome:https://www.linode.com/docs/applications/remote-desktop/install-vnc-on-ubuntu-16-04
But, it uses too much ram and firefox does a magic trick and disappears.
Please kindly advise me, my seniors and friends.

Just upgrade to Wheezy. It's still there. http://packages.x2go.org/debian/dists/
Why not download NX from it's official website? https://www.nomachine.com/download/linux&id=1
Also, do you have zram installed?
Hi,
I don't have much experience and I just try guides I find on Google, but most are 1-2+ years old now.
I'll try using Zram to control memory usage, thank you.
Hi wss,
I tried wheezy/debian 7, but when I add the sources and run it using the commands in freevps, I get a error. I'll try the link you shared. Ty
Is this a VPS?
Debian 8 minimal. IceWM for GUI. xrdp to allow you to use Windows RDP client to connect. I use Chromium to browse the Internet as its lighter, it seems to me, versus heavy clunky Firefox.
My VMs are 1 CPU, 2GB RAM, 25GB disk (could easily use 10GB or less as 1.1GB on average is in use across the 4 RDPs I use)
You're welcome.
I'm not doing TE. I have a few Facebook accounts to manage groups/pages where I don't want directly associated with me.
@doughmanes That was you on LadyboyGirlfriends!!
@doughmanes, any reason to prefer that over local VMs and that VPS as proxy only? Sounds less clunky.
slimjet (despite the bad website) is a great and lightweight Chromium derivative, I couldn't use Chromium efficiently on my old netbook, however Slimjet ran just fine. That may help your browsing problem.
The ability to allow an authorized user to login to manage whatever pages/groups that I assigned to that account on the RDP
To answer the OP, ditching Gnome and going something more lightweight like IceWM will give the best results. I think Lowes and Sherwin Williams (I know for sure about this) uses IceWM on their point of sale terminal registers.
Lowes does, I've walked behind the registers and seen it on them before, at that time I didn't know what it was until I read your comment just now
Now, I thinking of starting my own Lowes Store or Home Depot Store. Anyways, I think i'll try IceWM combined with Chromium.
Thanks guys. You the best!

You need more ram it's not 1999
Yeah I would go minimum 1GB RAM. I set it up with 2GB RAM for later on when I start emailing the users of the remote desktop tasks to complete
