A good host for a minecraft server?
I am in need of a vps for a minecraft server, preferably a company that can help provide the speed as well.
Does anyone have suggestions?
- OS - Any mainstream linux (Centos, Ubuntu ect..)
- VPS software (Open or vm, doesnt matter)
- Ram (2GB Min and higher)
- Uplink (100mbps bare min)
I would rather have a host that is already hosting minecraft servers, only because it provides easier support and confidence.

SimpleNode, off the top of my head, provide Minecraft-specific VPS hosting. It's a bit out of LEB range but on Gbit and with Minecraft-specific support.

@Jack Lol
anyone try shardhost?
You could put one on one of BlueVM's plans. Ideally a Blue3 or higher. Just make sure to keep the CPU Usage down, as if it uses too much for too long, the process will get killed automatically. The E3's in our new nodes are pretty darn fast with MC Server hosting though!
speaking of which where are your new nodes?

We allow this and have 2gb in LEB range. Location is Columbus, OH. PM me if interested.
@EricS You can find all the info you need on our About page, https://www.bluevm.com/about.php
You can always try us (Link in signature)
We are a registered company in NL
@joodle do you allow IRC
Minecraft + IRC and a nice domain might be a cool project
I recommend ChicagoVPS for Minecraft.

Really can't say enough about how good ProvisionHost is, I know they're not really LEB/LET price but you get what you pay for
I have 2 VPS @BlueVM and a friend of mine is runnig some MC servers on them. No problems
@Magiobiwan You said that the CPU will kill tasks, if they need too long too much power - can you go into detail pls?

They say 512MB Ram for 15 players, I think that's too much for running without any lags. 5-8 should be fine. Please correct me when I'm wrong.
@trexos
Ram really does not indicate how much lag you are going to get to be fair.
512MB can handle ~10 players on it if you're not using too much plugins
wiki.bukkit.org says 1024MB ram per 10 players

What's a good server to jump on for a noob like me? I have a few shoot em ups from NFO, wouldn't mind getting into it.
I suggest using an SSD based host, world loads a lot faster and less laggy. We have pure SSD hosting in San Diego, CA and SSD cached (450MB/s) in Buffalo, NY. Otherwise I can also strongly suggest RamNode.

Can do discounts, but nodes have lots of unused capacity, E3s + SSDs obviously as they're best for Minecraft.
I can't go into much detail about the Minion scripts, but basically using 100% of a core is bad if it's for more than a few minutes. Fair-use after all. But, PLEASE don't run "Feed The Beast". Most bloated piece of Java crap. Ever.
100% agree with this.
