Unrealircd and Anope Services

I'm trying to setup anope services with unrealircd on one of my idle VPS's that my brother and his gaming community can hang out on, all the tut's I've found online have been out of date or not worked as the tut suggests they will.

Does anyone have an upto date guide for installing anope and linking it to an unrealircd server? It's driving me insane now :(

    https://wiki.anope.org/index.php/2.0/Configuration

    https://www.unrealircd.org/docs/Installing_from_source
    https://www.unrealircd.org/docs/Configuration

Installation is very straight forward for both, configuration is time consuming but the example config files for both are well documented with comments on what each section is for and what the appropriate variables are.

If you reply with what problem you're running into I could probably tell you what the issue is.

  • I would recommend against Unreal and Anope. There are better options out there, especially Atheme for services.

  • Just installed it myself last week. The only documentation issues between 4 and the 3.x documentation is the link blocks but unrealircd will convert 3.x to 4. My pending to-do is figure out why everything is acting like a hub instead of a leaf such as connecting to the public IP (leaf) that it connects to another server (hub)

Another choice is IRCu+GNUworld+website which is a really complete IRCd solutions based on Undernet network.

There is even a modded and enhanced version here: https://github.com/Seven-7/gnuworld-enhanced

Line by line instructions are given for Ubuntu and are up-to-date.

  • Are you having problems with Unreal or Anope? I can point you in the right direction with some provided errors. I'm guessing its most likely linking issues which is a pain in the ass if you're not paying attention. I had one server named different things in my link block across other servers. Also make sure your sid is unique per each running ircd if you're running more than one.

  • Nobody uses hybrid anymore?

  • EFnet server I connected to (colosolutions) is ircd-ratbox-3.0.8

    Thanked by 1WSS
  • I decided to try it on my Windows server, got both working but none of the modules appeared to be compatable nowadays with either the latest unrealricd (4) or Anope.

I've been playing around with xtheme, yet to get it working but determined to :)

  • Third party module?

Aye, it looks like the best services for ircd at min.

Now I just need to get it to link up so I can give it a test :)

  • A basic ircd and services shouldn't take you too long if you're just creating one server. I spent the good part of 12 hours trying to get a more complex setup working. I need to brush up on my documentation too because of the 3.x vs 4.x changes in how things are done.
