Ive been looking into Centinmod and vpssim. Thaise must be quite secure right because they dont have a cp

I know Centmin Mod is secure.. because I made it so :) But VPMSIM is outdated and doesn't get regular updates so I'd probably not use it. There's so many LEMP stack installers out there now with outdated software which is vulnerable due to security flaws which were fixed with newer versions that haven't been updated in other LEMP stack installers now. It's kind of scary if you think about it.

Centmin Mod is alway kept up to date as I eat my own dog food and run it in production on 120+ servers.

Security and critical bug fix alerts are sent out to all Centmin Mod users who register for official Centmin Mod forums, or social media accounts or via site and forum web push notifications to your mobile devices i.e. https://community.centminmod.com/threads/centminmod-com-web-push-notifications-tests.7583/. Note web push notifications to mobile devices and browsers are only for security or critical bug alerts.

Centmin Mod latest 123.09beta01 also has within SSH console update alerts for Nginx and yum update reminders as well Centmin Mod code updates so folks are reminded that there updates available :)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why have you never created a version for other distros?

I'm more familar with CentOS/RHEL RPM environments that Debian/Ubuntu so all my know how and security/performance tweaks get rolled into Centmin Mod. I can install LEMP stacks from scratch for Debian but not all performance tweaks and stuff I am as familiar with compared to CentOS /RHEL. With that said I may have future plans for Centmin Mod to support Fedora and Cloudlinux/CageFS. Way into future though.

  • CentOS Web Panel is not a bad option :-)

  • How about OpenLiteSpeed? It has a inbuilt web admin panel (add vhosts, setup SSL). Haven't used it, but it looks really promising.

    zpanel is pretty good :)

Only if you want to get hacked.

Speaking of ZPanel/Sentora hacked. Does anyone really have experience being hacked using this panel?

This article inexplicably leaves Virtualmin out but reviews all the other major cpanel alternatives: https://helgesverre.com/blog/free-alternatives-to-cpanel/

Last provider I worked for, this was common. zPanel and Kloxo were common problems. Kloxo-MR is supposed to be better

At least one provider bans Kloxo in their AUP:

    https://securedragon.net/aup.php

"14. You may not run Kloxo Control Panel."

Don't know if that's Kloxo specifically or Kloxo-MR as well - never ran either. @KuJoe could enlighten the thread if he so chooses.

  • I use vestacp and serverpilot. Also follow keyhelp I am waiting for when they implement support nginx and selection php version for a domain. demo https://demo.keyhelp.de/

Most providers ban Kloxo but permit Kloxo-MR. Some providers also ban Kloxo-MR because they don't care where Kloxo-MR is different think compare to Kloxo (official).

Kloxo 6.1.13+ already fixed security issue and their patch using Kloxo-MR code.

    Thanked by 1linuxglobe
  • So, the Kloxo-MR is secure, tried and in use from years, without downtime, and without security problem! Is recommended!

  • Caddyserver is the easiest but it has no panel. Vestacp if you must have a panel but caddy is way easier, faster and auto http2/ssl

  • +1 for VestaCP. One of the simplest & clean control panel. Further it installs very quickly.

unfortunately Caddy ain't scaling that well compared to Nginx https://forum.caddyserver.com/t/any-performance-overhead-as-you-add-more-headers-under-http-2/403/5

  • Does Vesta come with a file manager ?

    It's available as a $3/month (or $50 one-time) addon.
