Hello Everyone,
I have been here lot of times, but today I have finally registered here. I want to learn using VPS without cpanel and other stuff.

I had some experience managing CPanel based VPS. But I would like to setup these bare metal or barebone vps and learn the working.

I will be sparing around 3-5 months to make sure that I learn everything and move my websites to this VPS (which i will buy in couple of weeks).

Currently, I host some customers, using reseller web hosting that ends up somewhere around $250 an year ( I paid to reseller company). So one day I want to use cheap VPS servers and bring down the business investments and offer better pricing for my customers. So those are some future plans, if i learn to use these VPS with terminal.

So I am an intermediate user with some knowledge about using ssh and stuff like that, I did setup aws and vultr instances in past.

Also, I need the new VPS I buy should not be detected by website like this https://www.bitcatcha.com/

You know what I mean, right now I am reselling web hosting and some people just input my website url in website like i provided above and they are able to trace out who is my main provider. This is bad for my business.

It is also one of the reason why I want to move to a VPS and also I want some privacy protection. I hope you guys here will point me in right direction.

I would be moving my websites to this VPS once, I feel that I can manage the live websites easily. Till then I will purchase it and learn with a spare domain I have for educational purpose.

Thank you.

Is this a dream? Raise your budget!

  • Is SSD a firm requirement? I can do something that meets your needs on our KVMH range in Los Angeles except for the SSDS - 8 HDDS RAID 10, so the disk performance is still very good.

I prefer SSD, also I have edited my requirements. 1 CPU core is sufficient for now. Thanks

  • Maybe @vapornode can help you out with that.

cheap ssd vps? this is the first thing that comes to my mind https://www.ovh.com/us/vps/vps-ssd.xml although everyone probably already knows about that, throw in an additional, one time $3 free and you get a second IP included for free for the reoccurring months.

    @VortexMagnus combine two xmas specials?

  • key900 said: 1x IPv4

    How about a second IP?

vapornode said: Is 2 IPv4 a hard requirement?

Actually, I meant that KVM offer with the same specification as requested by OP might still be available for $20/yr https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1992660/#Comment_1992660 And you charge $1/m for additional IP, as I recall.

    Is doable.

Not, a hard requirement. I just thought I could get 2nd IP if possible in my budget. May I know if this is still offered.

I will be looking forward to hear from you. Thank you.

Thank you, not interested in cloudflare stuff, those cloaking tricks are already done. I am looking only for a solid vps now.

    Yes it is KVM! :)

  • @younggeek Yes we could still offer that however our additional IPs are no longer $1/month so an additional IP would put it outside your budget.

Okay, No issues. How much does additional IPs cost. if I need later on, I can add them right?

For now, I will be hosting wordpress so, I guess 1 IP is sufficient for now and the deal looks good to me.

Let me know how to order this special package, coupon code?

  • @younggeek I will PM you a link shortly!

I can offer you that in the UK, KVM link I can bump it to 20GB and 2 IP's for €35.00 p/year

It is not pure SSD but it is 6 x SAS disks in HW raid 10 + 2 x 512GB SSD's running under cachecade for excellent performance and it is DDOS protected ) ddos magnets are not harbored though)

Thanks Everyone here for helping. I have purchased Vapor Node KVM :)

  • Now, I would need someone to point me to some memory optimization and server hardening articles.

Right now, I am using Debian 8 Minimal installation, with Vesta CP and a wordpress website with letsencrypt.

I see, the memory usage goes upto 98% sometimes. I want to disable logging on vestacp. Harden it a bit and tune it to handle more sites.

I am hosting only one domain now, still need to setup it with design and other stuff. I would appreciate, if anyone here can guide me with some right articles or links that will help me optimize my setup and utilize it to the best.

Thanks again for great support from this forum. I was busy working on sites, so could not get back here.

  • Try CENTMIN MOD https://community.centminmod.com/ it has a lot of optimization built in and also automatic wordpress install. God bless you!
