I want to bite, because I'm still pretty green with LXC, but, really, what does it have over OVZ from a non-ring0 perspective?
From a customer perspective LXC isn't really a gain over OpenVZ. To put it in simpler perspective, LXC is sort of like an evolution of OpenVZ. LXC is being developed and included in the mainline kernel, unlike OpenVZ. LXC has a clearer future. Sort of like when KVM was on the way in. There was Xen, but it required its own configuration/kernel and wasn't part of the mainline kernel as was KVM.
When looking at platforms, we knew we wanted to go with Proxmox, but at the time there was a transition to version 4 of Proxmox, which dumped OpenVZ in favor of LXC. So, there was a decision to be made... Go with the tried and true, ie. OpenVZ. Or, go with the new and unknown, ie. LXC.
If we wanted to use Promox, we were going to have to move to v4 at some point. That made the decision easier. We went with LXC in order to avoid all of the upgrade headaches which we would ultimately have to face eventually when moving to v4 or above of Proxmox.
LXC is great for general purpose Linux VPS just as OpenVZ is. Due to it still being fairly new, there are some incompatibilities here and there. But, those have been few and far between and if found, we work with our customers to move to a KVM VPS. Overtime, this should get less and less of an issue as development progress is made.
