Reliable Storage VPS - EU

Hello LET!
This is my first post!

I'm looking for a storage server based in the EU to store some backups on.
Most of my servers are in the UK.

Could someone recommend a reliable and reputable provider?
I'm looking for quality over price.

Anything from 250GB to 1TB with your standard ssh, rsync, sftp features would be great.

In a perfect world I'd like to spend no more than $15/month but based on your recommendations I could spend a little more.

Thanks in advance! :)

    Would Germany work for you?

  • If price isn't an object, I'd go with Backupsy

    https://backupsy.com/

Use the code 40PERCENT and you get 500GB for $18/month. If you're okay with 250GB, then it'll only be $9/month. They have locations in NL and UK.

You might be able to find better coupons/packages for Backupsy elsewhere but I haven't looked.

    Why not? :)

Thanks for the recommendation - looks good! Have you used them before?

I did a quick search on LET it seems as though Backupsy might not be as good as it used to be? This guy says they lost all his data? Whilst this post doesn't instill too much confidence :S

  • I've used them a long time ago but I quickly phased out as they were a little too expensive for my needs. Had no problems at all though.

I've heard a lot of good things about time4vps lately, but I believe they're targeting the ultra-cheap backup/unimportant data market rather than a "storage vps" like you're looking for.

While this doesn't come with SSH and all the goodies, depending on your use it may be better for you:
    https://www.hetzner.de/de/hosting/storagebox/bx40

    ~$12/mo for 2TB

Hetzner is well-known and you've probably already heard of them so I won't write up much else.

  • If NAT works for you our new storage lineup may be suitable?

Iniz had an offer not long ago which I wrote up for them.

$7.98/mo (May be less now as they convert from GBP) for 1TB RAID50 backed storage in Amsterdam or London with 4TB bandwidth

    https://lowendbox.com/blog/iniz-kvm-and-openvz-servers-starting-18-58-per-year-in-11-locations/

OpenVZ.io is their OpenVZ based offerings.

Good luck with whoever you choose :)

They also state: The plans in UK/US/NL (KVM & OpenVZ-IO) have unmetered incoming bandwidth

  • @tafa2 from what i have read you can use rsync on amazon cloud drive which is unlimited for $60 a year..

  • OK, I believe HostHatch, Prometeus, ZXHost are quite reliable and reputable.

  • As mentioned already; Hetzner Storage Boxes. They are dirt cheap and amazing for the price. Also very nice to not have to setup and install.

If you're ok with object store, OVH cloud storage might be a good choice. 1 eurocent/month/GB, free inbound bandwidth, 1 cent/GB outbound (if it's backups you presumably won't use outbound except for restoring), and your data is supposedly triple replicated in multiple data centers iirc. That has to be a better reliability story than a raid-5 vps, though of course it costs more.

Our storage plans should be perfect for you:
    https://openvz.io

London is currently out of stock on order form but if you open a ticket up I can fit you in :)

This is RAID50 storage which is a little bit scary for high reliability. Price is good though. I wish it was possible to see the storage offers as something other than a javascript overlay. Is there a direct url?

  • Netcup? You'll have to pay 6 months in advance though. Offer is only valid today. https://www.netcup.de/bestellen/produkt.php?produkt=1707

Assuming the OP is storing back ups, high reliability isn't really required? In that sense yes anything mission critical should not be hosted on this. Saying that we've yet to have any issues since launch and the RAID status is closely monitored. We are also not using any significantly high TB drives, 2-3TB HGST Ent drives which we've been using in all our locations/nodes since we did some migrations.

Reasonable point. Have you had to rebuild any arrays, and any issues with that? Do you keep the service online during rebuild? Thanks.
