Of course you should try it!
A lot of popular sites are using it already. And it is really fast compared to the full versions.
Also, you get your site cached on the Google servers, so that saves some bandwidth and processing power.
If you have tons of traffic -> yes. If not -> no.
My feedback as a reader: don't do it! Google AMP is a pain in the butt for the reader, and I will typically go find a different source rather than read an AMP page. On top of that, if an AMP page is the best source, I can't actually link to it—Google mangles the URL, so if I want to share it I have to re-find the actual page to get a link. The interface within a Google search is also really annoying.
Despite Google continuing to give the best search results whenever I've done comparisons, I'm seriously contemplating changing my default search engine just to avoid AMP.
there was a thread discussing how to abuse it without actually using their allegedly lightning web 3.0 js accelerator

I wonder if someone ever tried to stress it
EDIT: damn I've been tricked in a necrobump
Don't worry. Perfect time.
As much as I like AMP, for the advantages, we should also read other opinions, like this one:

There are more articles on this tipics. And I should agree with most of these points
