I don't know about minecraft servers but if you can install it from scratch, as DDOS protection so far I can recommend Kamatera. I have a server with them in Israel and man it can take some 'punches'.

However as public advertised server, DDoS is expected. Meanwhile I want to know about CPU performance differences, Because DO mainly uses Intel, While Linode uses AMD.
