I'm slowly switching to proton for my mail. I currently have about 45 GB of photos on my phone. It would probably take 15-20 GB storage when compressed.

Yah, you need to be cautious. Another caveat that is missed is that your Drive storage ges back to 15 GB from 2TB once the offer ends.

Use existing software. Or build your own service.

Could be different routing, maybe better, for some visitors. CGNAT IPv4 + IPv6 is becoming more common, with IPv6 preferred.
