Still can't change the DNS records.

Very cheap, especially the cost per day. $10-$15/year per domain name.. DNS is much less than that, create a bunch of sub-domains, and point.

Just because the domain still was pointing to the IP via external DNS. While there was NOT EVEN A ACTIVE SERVER!!!! The IPs simply un-used and/or some where re-assigned.

But one can't clean the domains pointed at your IPs. A bad domain name, pointed at one of your IPs, isn't something you can change unless you are hosting the DNS.

It could be that the bots would only pick them up when the name's FDNS record corresponds with the IP's rDNS record, during that particular time.

If you use geodns, keeping that info in sync between multiple providers is no trivial work.

re-installing Ubuntu with each of the different DNS providers in your control panel.

Looking at CloudNS, it's around 3-6$/month. But they are probably one of the cheapest around, considering the fee.
