[REQ] Dedicated or pinned-vCPU server — Ohio/Chicago/VA — 64GB, 2TB+ NVMe, modern CPU, $100-150/mo
Location: Ideal Preference - Ohio, USA
Works too: 1. Chicago, 2. Virginia, 3. Toronto
CPU: 8+ cores, modern only:
EPYC 9004/4004 (Genoa/Bergamo), Ryzen 7000/9000,
or Ryzen 5950X (minimum acceptable floor).
Please quote the Passmark single-thread score.
NOT Xeon E5-26xx v2/v4, NOT Xeon Silver 4208.
Pinned/dedicated vCPUs, negligible steal. Bare metal or high-quality VDS
both fine - no time-sliced oversubscription.
RAM: 64 GB DDR4/DDR5 (ECC preferred, not required)
Disk: 2-4 TB usable NVMe. NVMe only, RAID0 of 2x1TB is fine, room to expand later
Network: 1 Gbps unmetered (or 30 TB+/month), Heavy one-off inbound sync of several TB at setup, please confirm that won't be throttled
Use Case: Large dataset server. Read-heavy plus continuous writes, roughly 200 GB/month growth. Single-thread CPU performance matters more than core count
Access: Full root, own binaries, custom ISO or Ubuntu 24.04
Budget: $100-150/month for virtualised. Up to ~$250 for bare metal with 4 TB NVMe.
Comments
8+ cores you want a VDS not a VPS which such CPU requirements.
but since you insist,

Sucky company but are in stock - https://www.reliablesite.net/dedicated-servers
Hey! Would a VPS in Toronto work if it was Ryzen 9 9950X? Still highly performant even with shared cores
@enderhost
could you send the full specs and price? Main things I need:
Are the vCPUs pinned/dedicated to my slice or time-sliced, and what CPU
steal do you see under load?
Rough RTT from your Toronto facility to AWS us-east-2 (Ohio)?
Hey! Thanks for getting back to me.
We can put together a custom Premium KVM VPS in Toronto, Canada, with the following specifications:
Price: $150/month recurring
Regarding your other questions:
CPU Allocation: Our vCPUs are shared rather than pinned or dedicated, but we've conducted testing to evaluate CPU steal under load. We ran a stress test on a 4-vCPU VM at full CPU utilization for 60 seconds and measured just 0.04% average CPU steal, with a maximum observed value of 0.25%. These measurements reflect the current node workload and may vary over time.
Bandwidth: The plan includes 50TB of monthly transfer rather than unmetered bandwidth. We can accommodate a multi-terabyte initial data sync, although sustained throughput will depend on network conditions and available capacity.
Latency to AWS Ohio: We ran an MTR from our Toronto network to AWS's us-east-2 regional endpoint and measured an average RTT of 18.5ms, with 0% packet loss across 30 probes.
If you have a specific AWS instance IP, we can also test the route directly to that destination.
We also offer full root access and can provision Ubuntu 24.04.
If this configuration interests you, feel free to message me and we can arrange a custom invoice!

Why do they suck, not being argumentative, just would like to hear your exp.
They are on Sunny's hall of predatoriness for a reason
We can offer this Dedicated Server in Ohio for same day setup:
Ryzen 5950X
64GB DDR4
2TB NVME
30TB/Month Bandwidth
1Gbps
$150/month
We have 9900X as well, but they are more money, and longer delivery timeframe.

@SmartHost
1) I need to go to 4 TB NVMe (2×2 TB, or one 4 TB drive), How much will that be for the extra storage + if in the future I need to add more NVMe? My task will write to them constantly
2) Is the 30 TB/month counted on traffic both ways or outbound only? Will a 3–4 TB download at setup be throttled?
3) Which datacenter/city is it in? Could you share a ping/traceroute to AWS us-east-2 (e.g. ec2.us-east-2.amazonaws.com), or a looking-glass/test IP?
That one is prebuilt, ready to go...and only has one 2TB NVME SSD.
Your initial post said 2TB was OK.
Adding another will cost additional, and take time for parts delivery.
Also, explain your constant write please...as we don't take kindly to clients burning thru NVME rapidly, and expect reasonable usage.
If not in a rush, we can do a 9900X instead, with 3.84TB NVME, at $199.95/month.
We need build/ship that to OH1 location however, or VA if you prefer.
Bi-directional, counted both ways.
Reasonable usage speeds expected....don't max-out/flatline the entire 1Gbps and instead spread that out over reasonable period.
We have plenty of capacity available at this locations however.
