Ghost
In my experience, I love how quickly I can see new changes—I don’t have to keep restarting the entire system.
simplicity and fast to deploy
the classic way to host php site is just upload php project to public_html, if my web need database I can setting it up in cPanel/directadmin
I don't need to touch pm2, systemd, docker, kubernetes etc.
That's right,
I only use C and CGI for websites.
Because it's cheap!
The thing about PHP isn't that it is a shitty language but rather it is a language that allows almost everyone to BE shitty at if they don't actually put in some basic work.
Ghost 👻
People need a good (enough), fast and cheap website then PHP is a thing. BTW, there is no Wordpress alternative in Nodejs, Python or Java. Wait, Ghost is easy to install, update, edit theme? I dont think so.
It's fast enough, cheap enough, and most importantly, rewriting the existing internet infrastructure is too costly.
Because PHP is continuously updated, improved and patched when vulnerabilities are discovered. No programming language is perfect but regular updates and proper maintenance are what matter. PHP is still evolving .. not standing still.
why muse not gpt or claude
maybe emdash,power by cf
i asked gpt and it said 69% sites use php.
i think switching will come with a bigger cost.
The bigger day-to-day danger is often the whole deployment: an unsupported PHP version, an unmaintained CMS or plug-in, weak configuration, or application code that mishandles input. IDK how many people are using latest 8.4/8.5 verion.
substantial share of those 69% sites might be using PHP 6 or 7 version which can have many bugs and holes to hack.
because wordpress is still alive
and laravel and CI and Symphony
PHP just works
PHP is still widely used because it works, it's affordable to host and its ecosystem is huge. The real problem isn't the language itself, but outdated applications, poor coding practices, and neglected security updates. Switching languages doesn't automatically make an application more secure.
Because world needs php or maybe just maybe another language that doesn't comes with too many dependencies and compilations to run for just a basic form embedded with sendmail.....
Because of the lambo
what the fuck
where i work no main project is running PHP but plenty of half-abandoned shit is
PHP originally was developed as a static website generator. Some smart boys thought it would be wise to let the generation do in realtime. The language was never safe enough, it was just a perl more suited for html generation.
Yea, we should stick with dreamwaver.
Add
I don't care hacking
to that!
Ah, perl and the web...takes me back to my HTML::Mason days.
While we all remember PERL headaches:
Movable Type (which even existed before Wordpress and blogger.com...) is running on PERL and still seems to exist.
PHP grew out of its clothes and is showing too much now, unlike Perl.
I've already upgraded to the latest PHP version — I'm just worried there may be other vulnerabilities that haven't been disclosed yet. There's been so much vulnerability news lately.
Indeed it does, but it looks stuck. PHP needs help.
indeed i used dreamweaver to create nicely formated html forms, and perl cgi to collect the submited data.
