  BRING-IT-ON!

Thanks @dustinc for the welcome and the detailed answers! I'm currently on a shared hosting account with cPanel, running a small WordPress site, so the migration tooling sounds like exactly what I'd need. And thanks @schrauger for sharing your hands-on experience too — 6 clicks for WordPress sounds painless enough. Looking forward to giving AdminBolt a proper try!

Hi @jianghe -- You're very welcome! Just to clarify, the cPanel migration tooling I mentioned is for whole-server moves with root level access.

Since you're on shared hosting currently, @Chris_AdminBolt can better advise on the easiest way to bring your site across but as far as I am aware I believe there is an easy way to restore full cPanel backups onto AdminBolt servers as well. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with AdminBolt!

Got it, thanks @dustinc! Fingers crossed I get lucky with a VPS here — would love to try AdminBolt hands-on then. Will ping @Chris_AdminBolt with questions when that day comes!

Just installed AdminBolt on my giveaway VPS (AlmaLinux 9) using the official install script — fully non-interactive and done in about 7 minutes. It pulled in the complete stack: web server, MariaDB 10.11, Postfix/Dovecot/Roundcube for mail, PowerDNS, Redis, PHP 8.4, plus phpMyAdmin, file manager and more. Panel came up cleanly on port 8443 right after. Smoothest panel install I've done — one command and done. Thanks dustinc and RackNerd for the VPS!

Hi @dani_9527 -- You're very welcome, and glad you had everything up and running so quickly. Thank You for sharing your experience.

Update: I won one of the 4GB VPS in Batch 6 — thank you @dustinc, RackNerd and AdminBolt!

The VPS was activated and I installed AdminBolt from the RackNerd control panel (one-click install on AlmaLinux 9). First impressions of AdminBolt v1.9.2:

  • The setup wizard is only 2 steps (choose how you'll use the server, then create the admin account) and hands you all the login details on one screen at the end
  • You get two logins: a server admin panel and a client hosting panel, plus a free temporary domain (a myboltip.com subdomain), so the panel and a test site work right away
  • The client panel looks clean and modern: domains/DNS with Cloudflare and SSL options, a WordPress installer, file/database/email management, even a built-in AI assistant on the home page
  • Everything was up and running on the 3 vCPU / 4GB RAM Los Angeles VPS with no manual configuration

Still exploring, but so far it's a very polished cPanel alternative. Thanks again for the giveaway!

Hi @simis -- Congrats again on the win! Sounds like you've already had a good look around -- curious to hear what you end up hosting on it! Thank You for sharing your first impressions.

Thanks to @dustinc, RackNerd and AdminBolt for the giveaway! Here's my feedback after trying AdminBolt on my RackNerd VPS:

  • Installation was smooth. I deployed it from One Click Apps in RackNerd ctrl, and the install ran completely unattended. I didn't have to babysit it at all.
  • The interface is clean and works really well on mobile. I did most of my setup from my phone and everything was clear and easy to find. It's very beginner-friendly.
  • Looking around the panel, I like that the essentials are all built in: websites with multi-PHP, email, DNS, free SSL, MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL, backups with self-restore, plus a firewall and ModSecurity. There's no need for extra add-ons.
  • The cPanel migration wizard, the WordPress toolkit and the REST API/WHMCS support also make it look like a serious modern alternative to cPanel, especially with flat per-server pricing.

Overall a great first impression. Looking forward to using it more. Thanks again!

Hi @jemmy -- Thanks for the feedback. Getting most of your setup done from your phone is great to hear Glad One Click Apps within ctrl made the install easy and you found your way around AdminBolt without much fuss. Thank You for giving it a try -- hope that VPS gets plenty of use!
