  • Hello,

    Since it seems that you only receive responses to your support tickets if you post here in the forum, I would like to request access to tickets #TMTG6EQ9XCRVO and #TMUSJGCU14BAA.

    Thank you very much.

    Are @DeluxHost VPS basically crap?

    After quite some disappointment re DeluxHost VPS by LET users I decided to look into it by gathering new sets of benchmark data and to compare now vs. a year ago.

    The VPSs benchmarked are an F3 and a W3.

    Here is a summary (If more than a few users request it I can publish the full data) based on about 15 runs:

    === F3 ===
    sysinfo : Xeon(R) Gold 6122 CPU @ 1.80GHz, Mem.: 3.989 GB.

    Processor and memory results are very significantly worse than one year ago (about 15% to 20% worse).

    Disk: 4k/4t result is about 40% worse than one year ago, both in write speed and in IOps.

    Connectivity: Also very significantly slower than one year ago. One particularly bad example is to clouvider in London. 1 yr ago: DL [Mb/s]: avg 802.1 - min 360.2 (44.9%), max 1114.6 (139.0%). Now: DL [Mb/s]: avg 205.5 - min 0.0 (0.0%), max 336.1 (163.6%). 800Mb/s vs. 200 Mb/s!
    Another example within NL, AMS! (xtom.nl)
    1 yr ago: DL [Mb/s]: avg 2541.2 - min 1462.5 (57.6%), max 3059.2 (120.4%)
    Now: DL [Mb/s]: avg 325.4 - min 178.2 (54.8%), max 424.4 (130.4%)
    Ping also avg 2.4 ms (old) vs. avg 10.7 ms (new, now). and so on and on.

    Well noted, I do appreciate their efforts like DDOS protection, etc. but the cold, hard data clearly show that it hasn't gotten better, at least not in terms of performance, but actually even worse.

    === W3 ===

    Sysinfo: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-Core Processor, Mem.: 3.989 GB

    Here processor and memory performs much better, but with very high spread.
    OTOH disk performance is even way worse with 4k4t `3.10 MB/s and 798 IOps' (!).

    Connectivity though is significantly better than the 'F3', likely due to a 10Gb/s (shared) port, but still nowhere near really good VPS from other providers.
    Which also leads to the final point and summary: Pretty much all european providers' products are significantly more expensive. DeluxHost's market niche though seems to be dirt-cheap VPS.
    And that context must be kept in mind when judging them, let alone bashing them.

    All in all I think DeluxeHost delivers low-ish performance for a really very low price. Plus they seem to try to solve problems.
    So I'd not recommend to stay away, certainly not, but I recommend to think before clicking "buy", in particular wrt what you want that VPS to use for. Also do not expect a VPS with low steal and near 100% uptime.

    For non-critical tasks (like e.g. a DNS server - among others), a, preferably not dynamic, private website, etc. it's a good deal though. And compared to real crap servers like e.g. @MassiveGRID trash, those DeluxHost VPS are almost a treasure.

    @DeluxHost I'm neither a fan nor a hater but my impression is that nice talk is one thing, but it's not a replacement for cramming fewer VPS on a node nor for actual, real progress. At the end of the day cold hard data speak louder than marketing blabla!

    Thanked by 1erictav

    Have you tried contacting their support team? You'd get a much clearer answer to your question.

    Spoiler: YES!

    I've been waiting for a refund for almost a month. They're stringing me along - they even say they've sent the money, but in fact they haven't. I'd really be curious to know if anyone has actually gotten their money back from this provider.

    Once this year VPSs I have with your company expire I will never in my life renew most of your junkie series like D & F SERIES these 2 series I have 4 VPS on which i will just leave to remain idle to save my self from the headache of all times. I have 3 W-series I just lost data on after hearing from your team that disk accidentally damaged now I have rebuilt images on the 3 W-series unfortunately after rebuilding I can only use 2 old W-series which has similar subnet while the 3rd one which I purchased later which has another subnet is not working properly at all I can SSH into it but I can't install anything on all it's Ubuntu images. I have tried different versions of Ubuntu no luck. This 3rd W-series is just very slow as if the RAM or storage needed to be repaired. I have created tickets and my ticket not responded over 2 days till now. Ticket: #TMV2ISIGLVCO3. This attitude of not replying ticket untill after 3days 1 week is another issue.Those 3 W-series had been the only VPS that makes me still clingy to your VPS imagine 1 out of the 3 too is unusable

    Some of their series has become total crap this year compared to my last year experience using deluxhost VPS. I only use VPS for SLOWDNS VPN SERVERS nothing less nothing more I do not know much about VPS testing but from my own practical experience on the VPS using as DNS SERVERS last year and this year F AND D SERIES ARE CRAPS. The only thing that I'm still using are the W-SERIES. Though I have not tested other series except D, F & W Because I don't want to waste money again trying other SERIES out. Another reason I'm using deluxhost VPS is that not all VPS is supporting my SLOWDNS IP addresses but somehow I stumbled across this deluxhost VPS 2 years ago which support my SLOWDNS IP addresses and very good last year but this year had been terrible experience.
