3 VPS for productive HA Kubernetes "Homelab" Cluster
Hey guys / girls
I want to build a little Kubernetes Cluster on the cheap. I need 2 cheap high RAM low CPU (compute) VPS and 1 Storage VPS.
VZ Type: KVM
Number of Cores: More is better but I dont have too many users. So, bursty might fit me very well.
RAM: 4-8GB for the compute nodes, 2-4GB for the storage node. If I can scrape together 20GB (8+8+4) I would be extremely lucky.
Disk Space: Doesnt really matter too much for the 2 compute nodes, >= 1TB for the storage node. More is of course always welcome
Disk Type: HDD + NVMe for Storage
DDoS Protection: No
Number of IPs: Storage VPS may not need IPv4.
Location: Europe, preferably Germany.
Budget: 100 EUR / year
Billing period: Yearly with trial upfront so I can see that it works.

If you don't care about uptime, @DeluxHost offers you the cheapest VMs, otherwise @NovaCloudHosting might be able to offer something
Well, maybe I can mix and match? I know that I will buy shitty VPS here, but maybe 3 shitty VPS and k8s can work? It is an experiment ... or did you try it out for yourself? Maybe someone also has something that he or she wants to offload. With prices as they are I am hoping to cut a deal here. Since this will be for friends and family and startup and whatever else I need it to work reasonably, but I am not chasing the 9s.
Hey, we can offer something:
Just 3,50€/Month or 35€/Annually (excl. VAT)
Just 3,50€/Month or 35€/Annually (excl. VAT)
That would total to 105€/Annually
Have written to Nova and others who send me PMs, but not signed yet. Anyone else having offers?
If you're just trying to learn Kubernetes you don't need 3 separate servers. And one good VPS is much better than three shitty VPS. I suggest you get a good server and keep backups
If you insist on having a cluster you can still do that even with a single server. Just put each node in a container or VM (some providers allow nested virtualization). Obviously doesn't make sense from an HA perspective but it's a common way to learn
@AspireHosting @DediRock Both are good. And considering you’re still learning, these are definitely solid options.
If @aspirehosting still has that deal, you can get 8 GB RAM with 100 GB+ storage. DediRock also supports nested virtualization even on VPSs under $10/y.
I’m guessing that’s also available on the i9 Dream plans, right @DediRock ?
If @bbmmsvr4u comes up with some high RAM nodes, that’d be a good option too.
We will have some stock for the 8gb plan within 24 hours
Hey. Just to clarify. I am in Software for over a decade now and have been self hosting for over 5 years. Currently I have a very beefy home server. But it is just one node ... ;(
I currently run k3s on this very node with over 100 containers. Now, I need to offload load and recover RAM. Also I want to increase the reliability of services by going HA. That is why I am looking for a reliable provider to build a small cluster for friends&family services.
I misunderstood this, sorry. I thought you meant that you were experimenting with Kubernetes
I bought at Bero in Germany.
You guys got HA?
I am trying to set it up on 3 VPS. Send you a message to discuss further ...
That was rather a joke, I know what HA is but I don't need it.
If a server dies for a day, I be fine.
Hello @itzsenu,
Thanks for the mention
Yup, we do support it on the vast majority of our nodes, and The i9 Dream™ plans all support it as well, thank you
@itzsenu
xP we're cooking something up now! hahaha thanks for mention in the process..
Well, if someone had a high ram node with good compute for reasonable prices that I could abuse for compiling Rust ... I know, that is not exactly the profile a hoster wants, right? At least not for dirt cheap ...
Hey,
How much ram do u want? Any range and budget?
