Has any of your customer complained about servers being slow?
a cold shower
>
host-c making loss?
I always thought its a shower when its LET customers and a grower when it isnt LET customers?
I mean, its probably all about having the correct customers.
To be honest i wouldnt want to start a hosting when my main customers are from LET. I mean i meet alot of nice people here but still the price expectations are a bit tough....
For discussions this forum is nice but for business? hmmm
Millions
Actually, no! I've had at least one say it was faster than expected. Faster than some other hosts, which is kind of crazy to me.
I think it helps setting the bar low from the start. No one is using Slow Servers to try to compile Firefox, do mass transcoding, LLM, etc.
Millions is for the 14 year kids today.
We are adults, so..... TRILLIONS!!!!
@DonnMo
On a more serious note, most have a..... let's say a difficult time right now.
So entering now would be..... well, I would not, but ( yes, there is always someone’s but in a sentence ) it depends, if you own the fact that it might not turn out as you wish/hope, sure, enter.
Yet, (another but in the sentence ) the only problem is that the market did not adjust to the new reality and operators are also not convinced what that reality looks like price wise.
Most just raise prices to comply with raising expenses..... you know, to keep the ship 1 FT above water.
The end to all this is........... well, who knows if it stops here or it will get worse.
If we are free to speculate ( as we are on a forum
) I would bet my 2c that it will get worse; and it will keep getting worse as long as we have high energy prices. The hit to the balls is for EU, it is defenetly on the wrong side of the DISKS. ( EU has one of the highest costs of energy overall on the globe ), you cannot make any type of product, be it phisical or a service as long as you pay premium on energy ( energy here is electricity, gas, fuel or whatever alse ).
So, sit back, relax, and keep hope on speed-dial.
Cheers!
Negative growth is still possible so yes there's plenty room for growth.
Meanwhile the big boys are already losingI mean racketeering ZILLIONS.
The price of disk would have to soar by 100000%. And you bleed less on each passing day, right?
nop, YouTube increased pricing, Netflix the same, MSFT increased prices on their services, most probably mail will be next, so they are doing the same thing.
Everyone is absorbing apart of the raising costs but offloading the large part to the end client, I know, not cool, but option B is, deadpool.
PS: VAG is disposing ±100.000 workers world wide, ZF is doing layoffs also, HELLA, FEBI, FESTO and so on, this is not a hosting related issue, interest rates rise globally.
If by any-chance no one noticed, it is called recession. It will stay for a few years before things will get back to "normal", it will not get any better if we will keep making new wars and if we don't close the ones already opened.
It is called Global Economy for a reason, as if it is disturbed, Globally we all get fuqed.
Cheers!
EDIT:
I am not saying that we are not selling the smaller 6,8 and 10TB drives..... but on the other hand we are getting 18-24TB new ones. But that is not for the LE* promo 3USD/YR services.
Back to normal but it's going to be a new normal not the old normal.
Each new normal will last less than its previous normal, instability is the only thing that lasts, everything else will last shorter and shorter.
True, until we either learn to play ball, or, well, another war. ( this is me agree with what you wrote
)
There's no but in that sentence!
pull a cloudblast~
Tough. And the costs are flowing through.
Even if your prices dont increase your provider is likely defering hardware replacements, delaying upgrades (transit, etc) or even actively cutting costs (and quality).
All this AI stuff is inflation. When they printed money they gave it to billionaires. Now the tech billionaires found something to spend their infinite money on and that's going way up. If they had a model train hobby model trains would have rocketed up. Houses already inflated ages ago because they were an obvious investment to the less insane billionaires. It's all inflation.
Unless you have some kind of niche that nobody or very few other providers have, I wouldn't do it.
Competing on price is a dead end, there are plenty of providers that basically sell at a loss. This might work with an established company that can balance that loss with profits in other areas, but it's total suicide for a new company. Also, selling cheap will attract customers that demand everything but pay nothing, and that is not what you want. Support and chargebacks will kill you before you get a chance to break even.
If you plan to compete on quality the initial investment will be much higher and it will take a long time before you see any kind of profit. Getting a loyal customer base based on quality is slow, it takes years to build a reputation people are willing to pay extra for. If you have the funds to run such an operation with a loss for several years it might work out in the end, but it's a total gamble and requires lots of money, hard work and dedication.
