  • Hello dear people,
I have 3 blocks that I would like to rent but I have never done that before. Should I go with a company like IPXO or should I try my luck alone? Any tips appreciated.... Thanks.

We now file PI applications self-service. Pick anything from a /48 to a /32 for the same fee regardless of the size.

    https://www.isp6.net/pi

    PI £150 / €175 a year (approx $201). ASN £90 / €105 a year (approx $120).

Did the RIPE policies change recently?
Since when do they hand out /32 PI space? 🤔

If you have at least 4097 geographical locations. Something tells me the customers using this option won't.

Even if that would be the case, they would not assign you a single /32 for it.
At least under the current policies.

But if you ever find someone with 5k PoPs, I'm interested :P

I didn't see any mention of a maximum size in the RIPE policy. You only need to have enough locations to justify it (which nobody here does). A /48 per site, and then rounded up to the nearest nibble, so you need at least 4097 sites to round up to 65536 times /48 which is /32.

    Hey,

@c_vps ASN registration is something we do as a RIPE LIR, operating as Threatoff. 69.99€/yr plus a 19.99€ one-time setup, and a /48 IPv6 is included.

@RAVNIX @OBHost We have /32 IPv6 out of our own RIPE allocation at 39.99€/mo with monthly billing. It isn't a direct-order item, so drop us a ticket and we'll set it up.

Maintainer, RPKI, ROAs and rDNS are self-service in our panel either way. Details at skri.me/lir.

The policy has not changed. Our standard is /48 but you can go up to a /32 if your addressing plan can be justified to RIPE. We charge a flat fee regardless of the size.

RIPE is interpreting the policy on address usage in this case. Meaning, if you have multiple locations, RIPE will not even issue you a /47 or /44 PI, instead they give you multiple /48.

The NCC reads "Assignments larger than a /48 (shorter prefix) or
additional assignments exceeding a total of a /48 must be based on
address usage or because different routing requirements exist for
additional assignments." to mean that larger assignments can only be
made based on address usage. Routing requirements can only justify
    multiple /48.

    https://lists-ext-2.ripe.net/archives/list/[email protected]/thread/JEDIO77JYAAJ6SWTRWTKAZDM45FUNSIH/

I really doubt anyone can make the argument that they need more than a /48 in a single location, especially if you take the limitations in regard to customer assignments into account.

Also, if you check the current PI assignments out there, the only /32 assignments are RIPEs own. One for testing the other one for the k root server. Everything else between /32 and /47 can be counted by hand and are also old assignments from a point when RIPE was less strict about this.

No IPv6 PI assignment larger than a /48 has been made for 9 years.

I honestly think, advertising that people can request more than a /48, is a little misleading, or at least not fully honest, and just wastes the time of everybody involved.

I think the whole business of advertising an address block size bigger than the minimum /48 is already shady. The honest advertisement would be that they will help you get a PI block - no size specified.

Fair point, RIPE have not issued anything larger than a /48 since 2018. AWS BYOIP require a minimum /48 advertised per region and N regions is N x /48. That's a real justification right there. I cannot speak on behalf of RIPE but we can advise on the chance of a PI application being accepted based on a given address plan.

    Hi LET,

we’ve added a new batch of RIPE /24s to the IPbnb catalog, this time with UK geolocation.

Assignment, ROA and rDNS are handled through the platform. There are no setup fees, and billing switches to daily after the first month. Long-term contracts are also available on request.

If UK geolocation is part of your requirements, take a look while the new blocks are still available: https://my.ipbnb.com/

Need help choosing a subnet or checking its reputation? DM me.

Looking for a sponsoring LIR — need genuine PI IPv6 /48 + ASN

US company, want to get sponsored for RIPE resources for my own infrastructure. Main thing: needs to be a real PI assignment (my org, my admin-c/tech-c, my abuse-c) — not a PA sub-block where you keep your own handles on it and just hand me a maintainer.

Also want my own ASN, portable if I ever switch sponsors, and no restriction on announcing it via my own upstream.

Drop pricing/process if you offer this properly — thanks!

Yes, this was written by Claude, as I am fairly clueless on this topic.

It keeps saying human operators will answer if needed, but I asked when they are available and it keeps ignoring the question. 18 hours and no human reply yet and it says this:

An LIR relationship works best as a mutual fit. If you do not have confidence in how we work, another LIR may serve you better — and we can keep our focus where it goes furthest.
