Skrime dirt-cheap promo NL VPS benchmark and review
I recently noticed @Skrime appearing here and there and to be honest being a bit puzzled by their name (being phonetically very close to "crime"), I had a closer look at them and discovered that their promo price is quite attractive.
So I purchased one of their "EPYC 1G" cheapies (1 vC, 1 GB mem., 10 GB SSD, unlimited traffic on "fair share" 10 Gb/s) for € 1.49/mo. Note that you can get it even cheaper (€ 0.99) with only some IPv6. i.e. without an IP4.
And there we already are at my second negative experience (the first one being that they address everyone as "du", which in German by very many is considered grossly impolite): my FreeBSD installation was problematic and messy, mainly due to their template being made for IPv6 users it seems.
That said, officially their support seems to be reachable only during business hours, but on day two I fell lucky, one of their guys responded to my ticket even at about midnight!
Whatever, after some to/fro I finally managed to get my VPS installed and operational. Kudos btw for offering FreeBSD and even a half-way recent version (14.3).
Let's get at the meat, sysinfo, processor and memory first - as usual based on 30+ runs).

OK, An Epyc not even doing 1GB/s AES and way less than 100 RSA key pairs per second doesn't make that VPS shine. That said it manages (a beestick) over 200 MB/s single core, and let's also keep in mind that we're talking about a dirt-cheap VPS, so I won't complain. At all.

Oopsie. That's really mediocre, or to be more precise, the disk itself isn't that meeh but the tight node occupany tears its performance down. On the other hand the kind of stuff one puts on a small-ish dirt-cheap VPS tends to not be heavily DB driven, or in other words, IMO that thingy certainly is good enough for anything between a NS, a mid-size email server, and a not too dynamic and stressed website.

Europe - Actually quite good. Multi-hundreds Mb/s pretty much across Europe.
Asia / Oceania - I'll put it like this: up to Riyadh quite nice, webwerks in Mumbai is surprisingly weak, SGP and HKG are acceptable, China mainland seems to be basically not existing, Cambodhia and Indonesia are poor, Japan isn't great either, and Ozyyland isn't bad unlike Kiwiland.
TL;DR If you need good connectivity to Asia, this VPS probably is not a good choice.
Africa - somewhat worse than the usual.
Americas - CA, Montreal, Pittsburg, Chicago really good, the West-Coast OK, and anything in between acceptable though not great.
South-America surprisingly OK-ish
Summary/verdict: Normally I wouldn't be impressed, but this isn't your normal VPS, this is a dirt-cheap one and considering that it comes with kind of (and partially really) decent connectivity, unlimited traffic, plus DDOS protection on top, it's a clear case of recommended!
The grain of salt is that this "recommended" is valid only for this cheapie. Their other VPSs aren't recommended material considering bang per buck.
More of a btw side note: I won't keep mine mostly due to their mindless and stubborn "du" zealotry - but as a reviewer I must and want to be objective and fair, hence the "recommended".

In what way is using du mindless zealotry? Could that just be a cultural difference? Germany is large, and at worst I'd think that would seem just a little too familiar and informal, but not grossly impolite.
I guess it depends on cultural background. I happened to grow up in a family which valued culture as in "being and acting cultivated", so I'd never address a stranger as "du" (in particular not with a non-capital 'D'), but that's not really my core point.
My point is a mix of two, (a) "anglophilia" up to the point of basically being an obedient servant trying to copy what and how the "master" does, and (b) a company desiring to sell me something but obviously in the face basically telling me "we don't care about what you want, WE make the rules!" regarding things not relating to the business ... get exactly what they deserve, nothing from me. In fact I thought about making or not making this review, but in the end I put my view to the rear and did what I consider serving the community.
But let's not deepen that side-issue, after all this thread is about my benchmark and review ...

On the disk write numbers, that isn't something we're currently seeing on our side. If you send over your product ID we're happy to look at the node directly and see what's going on.
