HostBrr services in Finland will cease operations on the 1st of September 2026.

We are sorry to let you know that our services in Finland will cease operations on the 1st of September 2026. This was not a decision we took lightly.

Finland was a location we had hoped to expand. Over the past year, hardware acquisition costs have risen sharply, in some cases to almost eight times what they were, which made those plans unviable without raising our prices considerably. The location serves only a small share of our active services and had little room to grow, so it never received the attention we would have liked, but it did sustain itself.

That changed when we were hit by two further large price increases. The location is no longer sustainable as it stands, and expansion is now impossible. For those reasons we have to retire it.

We are retiring the location, not your service. Starting on the 21st of August we will begin migrating active services to our location in Frankfurt, Germany, and your service will continue under the same terms as today. We expect the full migration to take up to a week, but that is the window for the location as a whole. Your own service is only offline for as long as it takes to move that particular VM, not for the whole week. Given the number of servers involved and the volume of data, we cannot commit to an exact date and time for each service in advance. If you would like to agree on a specific migration window, please open a ticket. We can take scheduling requests up until the 21th of August.

We handle the entire data migration for you. Your service will also come out of this better than it went in. It moves to much newer and more powerful hardware, and connectivity is upgraded from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps. This comes at no additional cost and your recurring price stays the same.

The one thing that changes on your side is the IP address of your service. Please remember to update any DNS records, firewall rules or allow lists that reference the current IP once your migration is complete.

If your service currently runs on IPv4 NAT, this is a bigger change for the better. You will be given a dedicated IP address, which means the full port range becomes available to you and you no longer share ports with anyone else. SSH will then run on the standard port 22, so please update any saved connections, scripts or clients that still point at your old NAT port.

We do realise this may not suit everyone, and that some of you chose this service specifically for its location in Finland. If Frankfurt does not work for you, you are welcome to cancel your subscription instead. Please open a ticket before the 21st of August so we can take your service out of the migration plan. If your subscription runs past the cutover date, say so in the same ticket and we will arrange a prorated refund for the remaining time.

If we have not heard from you by the 21st of August, we will take that as your acceptance and your service will be migrated automatically. No action is needed on your part in that case.

Same, but I'm in SE and all my machines are funnily enough not FI because there was never a discounted offer that suited me. Having that said this is yet another HostBrr W for handling things as well as they can.

HostBrr just showing why they vecame a top provider in LET. My finland Server is very important to me. To me tue Herman location is a real improvement. Never had any issues with Finland location though.

Hm, it is possible that they will "optimize" more locations like that. IP change is a big blow :-/

  • Ah, and I was hoping to see the storage boxes available in Finland again so I could migrate from the German one. Sad. Are there any similarly priced storage boxes based in Finland besides Hetzner's own?

    Please don’t optimize away Falkenstein.
Our IPv6-only storage server is located there.

wouldn't be too much of a surprise. their FI location was Hetzner, so they probably took quite a hit on the price increases if those weren't just auction models.

and similar goes for Falkenstein, but maybe their fleet there is bigger or not so razor thin margins.

and while they migrate everything and don't raise prices yet, this still will take a bite out of their calculation for the location that has to take in all the cheapskate sales.

TL;DR; just another provider with unsustainable offers.
