Looking for Dedicated Server in Columbus / Central Ohio
I'm looking for a dedicated server in the Columbus / Central Ohio metro area.
The only non-negotiable requirement is network latency to AWS us-east-2. Everything else is flexible.
Must-have
- ≤2 ms TCP RTT to AWS us-east-2
- Anything above ~3 ms unfortunately won't work for my workload.
Preferred Hardware
- CPU: High single-thread performance (Ryzen 9950X / 9950X3D or similar). Around 16 cores is plenty.
- RAM: 64 GB minimum, 128 GB preferred (DDR5)
- Storage: Local NVMe only (no SAN/Ceph/network storage), at least 1 TB usable
- Network: 1 Gbps unmetered minimum, 10 Gbps preferred. Low jitter is more important than bandwidth.
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04/26.04 with full root access. IPMI/KVM would be a plus.
Budget
- $300-$500/month
- Willing to pay more for a proven sub-1 ms path to AWS us-east-2.
- Ready to deploy immediately.
Current Setup
My current server is:
- Ryzen 9 9950X
- 249 GB DDR5
- 2× 1.92 TB Micron 7400 NVMe
- 10 Gbps
The hardware is excellent, but it's located in Ashburn and I'm seeing around 17 ms RTT to AWS us-east-2, which is too high for this application.
If anyone knows a provider—or operates infrastructure—in Columbus/Central Ohio with verified low-latency connectivity to AWS us-east-2, I'd really appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks!

@SmartHost / Microtronix @jfreak53 is your best option for Ohio. They are in Ottoville, Ohio but not under 2ms
Other than that, I would look at options in Chicago/Detroit. There is more providers there.
For example in Chicago:
@qps might be able help
Chicago/Detroit
@GTHost @OneProvider
Thanks @concept. Unfortunately we dont have anything like that in stock right now. Thanks though!
At that budget your best bet might actually be to host within Amazon us-east-2 itself.
@piyanggoon QuickPacket's Chicago looking glass is here: https://lg.ord.quickpacket.com
Let me know if the latency works for you.
We can provide service in Ohio, however ec2.us-east-2.amazonaws.com is like 6-7ms.

Hello
Are the Columbus/Central Ohio necessary?
So when OP says
What makes you think it is not necessary? Is he saying the "must have" requirement for his health?
