Are there any actual popular software where the dev has vowed to rage quit development? Quick look through my installed apps and I don't see any sketchy developed apps that this would have mattered.

Quality apps generally have the developers name front and center. You'd only need to hide it for unlawful reasons, otherwise you can't agree to agreements with false information. Fuck those people having access to my apps.

The general problem is pay for development account and dev personal data. If I develop some app for me, friends and family or build some open-source project, I don't wanna to pay $100/y for dev cert, just for installation to device which I paid for. Because $100/y not money for US, but a huge amount for poor countries. Also I don't want to provide my personal data to Google, because it's not their f*king business.

For distribution in Play store or for sideloading apk only?

    Of course for sideloading apk.
I suppose, it absolutely clear, for PlayStore distribution, you need an account in google.

Yes, in addition to the account, there is the payment of fees, among other things.

  • There is more than a payment and an account. They need to validate your email, phone and identity. If that's how they wish to make the play store, that's perfectly acceptable.
Now they'll want you to disclose all of that above to matter what. You're just trying to make your own app? you can't attempt it til you follow their validation requirements and to pay them for such privilege. Make something they don't necessarily agree with? Falsely accused by the leading competitors? Revoke the certificate and it gets removed and get blacklisted. You just know they won't validate false claims.

If they really gave two shits about security and integrity. Why are their ads and play store still pushing malware? Why do they continue to propagate scams and push fake top search results?
Why does this always feel like a control, identification and money thing. Disadvantage a few , compromise everyone and stop nothing. All just for a shred of security.
