PC Mag: Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron Sued for Alleged Memory Price-Fixing
Link: https://www.pcmag.com/news/samsung-sk-hynix-micron-sued-for-alleged-memory-price-fixing
Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are being sued for allegedly colluding to restrict access to DDR3 and DDR4 memory standards, driving up prices by over 700% over four years and leaving no room in the market for competitors.
As Tom's Hardware reports, the complaint was filed in the US District Court for Northern California and accuses the memory makers of price-fixing by coordinating their pivots to high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This allowed them to profit on DDR3 and DDR4 memory without being undercut by the competition as they converted fabs to HBM production.
And:
The 17 plaintiffs, which include 14 individuals and three small PC businesses, are seeking class-action status, an injunction to halt any further price fixing, and damages.
I doubt this lawsuit will move the needle, but I hope RAM prices fall because of this lawsuit. I don't want VPS prices to go out of control.
Probably won't, since I bet Big Tech wants LET hosts dead to get people using AWS and Azure. And then buy DigitalOcean and Vultr in a fire sale.

Comments
I can assure you big tech CEOs spends absolutely 0 seconds of their day thinking about LET hosts
Typical law system parasites. Those 3 corpos has so much money that they can buy those litigants literaly. Nothing to see here, just oportunistic parasitism.
Probably true.
I have a conspiracy that the "AI boom" is an attempt to monopolize the VPS/cloud market.
For instance, the promise of "fiber" led to 7000 USA DSL resellers going bust in the process. And the worst part? The companies promising fiber didn't even really build it until the 2020s.

But in a gold rush, people think irrationally. They put all their eggs in one basket (AI) hoping it goes north, and disregard every other industry that needs RAM.
OVH ceo wants everyone to move to cloud services, be damned how can people afford actual hardware, thats not for regular people anymore just AI
GTA 6 is getting delayed for regular gaming PC's for a few years, coming to consols in 2 months... I guess no one can afford an actual gaming PC so probably not worth making games for them anymore. All gpus to AI, just play games throught the Xbox cloud
Given they got caught fucking around before, colour me surprised.
They're already blaming the customers
