Recent list of reputable US-based VPS providers

Is there a recent list of reputable US-based VPS providers somewhere? Or would people please list the providers with a generally favorable reputation on the forum?

@MannDude / @ISP / incognet.io has quite some reputation, but I am unsure what exactly you are looking for

Ok thanks, that's a good starting point. The request I posted is:

@infrabuyer said: I'm looking for recommendations for the VPS equivalent of Fiberstate. Essentially, rock solid quality service at a very strong value. FWIW I need to be able to install a custom OS on the VPS via ISO upload.

    Thanks!

It would be better if you stated exactly what you're looking for. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a "list" of reputable providers, and what's considered reputable often depends on your specific requirements.

    • Solid uptime
    • Solid connectivity and upstream diversity
    • 1 IPv4 address with the option of IPv6 down the road
    • Redundant power and disks on the VPS host machine
    • Pay with credit card
    • Install OS from ISO I upload like I mentioned
    • FreeBSD compatible
    • 24x7 NOC so if the service has issues they'll be proactive about monitoring & resolution
    • $8-10/month or so

I'd recommend GreenCloudVPS.com and AdvinServers.com. Both seem to have multiple people running 24/7 support, and I've had good luck with their VPSes being online 24/7 as well.

What sort of resources (ram, disk, bandwidth) are you looking for, at $8-$10/month?

I like RackNerd and GreenCloud, but I'm on the cheaper end of things (around $20/year for 2gb ram). If you have more money to spend, you may be able to do better.

I think Linode/Akamai, Vultr, and Digital Ocean set the standard at the top end, if they're not too expensive for you.

I am in shock about the linode reviews. Maybe they outsourced support to some kuku IT helpdesk far far away.

    vultr also terrible reviews..

  • I'd rather not use major VPS providers like Vultr and Digital Ocean. I prefer supporting smaller providers whenever I can.

i use vultr and digital ocean also for many years even before i discovered the ultra low LET providers . Their IT and billing support i guess is not so good as their hardware and their gui's.

I second @tentor 's endorsement of @MannDude . His network is great and all network-wide service issues are immediately addressed and communicated about to his users.

If the prices aren't what you're looking for, Incognet tends to run sales, especially around the holidays and new year. I personally spend less than $80/yr on 4 VMs using these promotions, not even including the lifetime plans I got for Black Friday 2025 (though I'm not sure if/when these will be offered again).

Personally, MannDude has been solid about communicating with me and resolving my questions in a timely manner. Old reviews did point out that Incognet's ticket responses took a while, but this has been steadily improving, and I have been satisfied as a customer so far.

Reputable is subjective especially if you're looking for low cost service (just look at LET history.) It's always best to use trial or refund periods to use hosts directly to get the real experience.

If your budget is limited, try to use our EPYC VPS Builder.

  • TierNet won't work for our specs unfortunately. They don't support installing from an uploaded custom OS installer ISO to VPS.

You don't need ISO support to install custom OSs.
