CPU Recomendations

Hello, All.

I'm currently seeking some CPU Recommendations for my non-profit hosting company.

Currently have a budget of around $450 per CPU, and I'm looking to buy around 12. What CPU would you recommend ?

Thanks !

  • Either go with Intel or AMD, they are both good options 👍

  • Hi, here’s some more information you might need.

What will you be using these CPUs for? If you want powerful CPUs, check this one:

Crazy performance per core https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/192451/intel-xeon-gold-6254-processor-24-75m-cache-3-10-ghz/specifications.html :)

Are you looking to purchase processors?

It's odd to just ask for the processor, because the motherboard pricing is also influenced by the processor you choose. For example, you can purchase an EPYC 7502 32-Core for $170, but the motherboard for that will be around $400-600.

On a relatively modern platform which somewhat cheap motherboards, the AMD Ryzen 9950X is probably your best bet. These can often be found for ~$500 on regular pricing, and $400-450 on promotion or on the used market.

Server motherboards are also available for ~$300.

    Hello,

For motherboards, i don't really mind any price. I have the budget for that. I only need to look for proper CPU's.

  • Wait for next gen intel and amd
Current line from both is trash
If you still need something go intel

  • The Epyc 4464p has 12 cores of super fast performance with only 65W TDP! $429 on newegg currently. Great cpu if you want to build 1U/1A boxes with high cpu performance -- the only downside is you will be very constrained on total available memory (max ~192GB). Good option if you are hosting things that are cpu-bound, but if cpu performance is less a concern, might want to go with something with more memory support.

  • IMO, you should thinking about price + power per core, not CPU.

Amd 9950x is hard to beat. If you need more cores go with AMD epyc
