  • For all the interest in the KS-A, absolute bargain it is if you ever get one, if you are looking for middling dedicated storage and don't need gbit speeds, some of the others attractive too. 4×2T (~5.5TiB after if you RAID5 them) for <20$ (a little more than 20 for a better CPU) doesn't compare badly to some storage VPS offers on hosts where you'll have lots of noisy neighbours on the storage array, less RAM which may be significant if you want to do much more than store stuff, and a less reliable network.

Shame that are Canadian only ATM, I'd prefer something a bit closer to me, but I'm tempted.

The hard disk is Intel DC P3520, which has been running for more than 45,000 hours.

This server has IPMI, and you can order /56 IPv6 for free, and up to 64 IPv4s can be purchased individually, or /24 IPv4s, but I didn't go ahead and don't know if I can buy them.

    Bought 16g get 32g or bought 32g?

    bought 32g, no surprise.😂

Thank you for the yabs and the above info. While the disk is so old that it has just exited its warranty period, those Intel DC SSD's are proper beasts and it could work properly for many years more, no problem at all. But... check how much has it been used, cells spent... this means much more in the enterprise world. I've heard that those Intel DC SSD outright refuse to write when they reach 100% to "protect customer data".

Do smartcl -x /dev/sdx and look for something like:

    0x07 0x008 1 96 --- Percentage Used Endurance Indicator

    or similar...

Oh well, of course. But, it's still reassuring to know how much life is left, do you have several months before first downtime, or several years. At least, that's the way I see it.

I was never a customer of OVH, but I've heard that such replacements there are not always easy or fast. I might be wrong, just the info I collected through years, including this forum. Or I just might be spoiled with Hetzner, where such replacements are routine and usually don't take more than 2 hours or so...

I think @Neoon had a way for quick replacement by using the API to request it

Kimsufi used to be no support brand of OVH in earlier days, now they provide similar support everywhere (apart of some personal account manager kind of support). However, anything non-hardware related is still hit-miss case with OVH.

It may be able to tell if it's drawing 0W vs >2-3W and conclude PSU packed it in.

Looks like this party ended before started. :( I think, there will be some lucky winners who will get server, and much more unlucky in this story who doesn't (refund?). And we can dream about only, to push the "order" button for this product in the near future.

    Hello all,
we are fixing few issues in the ECO range and adding more servers soon especially in APAC region, https://eco.ovhcloud.com/asia/
Also, Just to confirm, the KS-A price was not a mistake but is already sold out. (this low price does not apply for datacenters in Asia-pacific).

@OVH_APAC Which servers will be available in APAC?
I am specifically interested in KS-1 or KS-2.
Also, please DM me when available. I do not want to miss when first introduced because who knows after that the wait will be for how many days.

Same as what @zrj766 mentioned, disk is Intel. In my case it's Intel DC S3510, with around 50,000 hours in. Wearout at 30%. Good enough considering the price.

Thought it was in Warsaw for PL but apparently not. I'm loving it anyway.
