What kind of Dedicated Servers do you look for?
New Year! New me...... write-offs.
I'm looking to fill some of the extra space in my rack and want to see what is even worth purchasing and keeping in there.
I have tons & tons of Dual CPU E5's. I've tossed some E3's this weekend to see how fast they'll go.
I'll be adding Ryzen within the next couple of weeks (once I decide to go thru my storage room and find all the parts). But I first want to add those as VPS nodes before I lease any out.
If you were in the market for a dedicated server, what kind of specs would you look for? Should I offer Ryzen sooner?
Comments
Ryzen would be great. 32Gigs+ and ideally 10Gbps, Nvme storage.
That's what I'm mainly wanting to do. Ryzen's take up far less power than big power-hungry Dual E5's.
10 Gbps is no issue, it's the allocated bandwidth that is an issue. Hivelocity's bandwidth prices are fairly expensive.
For me only 3 things are currently important:
16GB RAM
240GB SSD
4 Cores
Location, bandwidth and port speed doesn't matter. Windows installation option must be available.
I recently threw this in:
E3-1271v3
32GB RAM
256GB SSD
10TB @ 1 GBPS
Path.net Protected
Dallas, TX
$54.99/mo
Windows is fine, but it'll be BYOL (We'll install it with the trial license included).
For me, a moderated CPU with RAM above 32GB, SSD + HDD with 2Tb+, unmetered bandwidth on 1G port, DDOS protected, and it would be better with DMCA ignored or at least slowly reacted.
Ohh, monthly payment under $55 would be good.
About $25 per month
I can pass to you my droplet server at digital ocean.
Specs
16GB RAM
200GB SSD
8 Cores
Location: Singapore
For only $20 a month.
$5 - $10
Won't even get you access to the datacenter 🤣
I got several requests for Ryzen dedicated in Antarctica.
I don't have expertise to offer dedicated.
Maybe you can expand there, using my free colo facility.
How come it is so cheap? Some BF or new year deal?
Yes, if you want it I can pass, for 1-3 month I can handles. A new year happiness for some one. Good thing I can do for new year.
Here is your Dedicated servers dmca ignored or tolerant... Some high cheap prices.

I call bluff. Penguins only use Linux. Everybody knows this.
Thank you very much!
Let's talk.
I think Ryzen would be great.
I'm always looking for affordable dedicated servers with a provider that respects the First Amendment, cares about freedom of press/speech, 1Gbps port is okay (but 10 Gbps preferred of course), 6+ fairly recent cores (Ryzen is very nice but not needed), very good bandwidth, great uptime record, and definitely some level of DDoS protection included. US-based is preferred, but some strong freedom of press jurisdiction outside of US is okay too. Combine that with great customer service and I'm very interested.
Hi, you can find them here:

Some of them provided support to Kiwifarms like Hostslick, alexhost, terrahost, buyvm you might check.
I had a couple of tickets asking about Freedom of Speech, and I'm just now realizing I don't have it listed anywhere.
Central.so does stand with Freedom of Speech. We don't censor anything, unless it breaks US Law, or our TOS.
Yes, thank you, I have checked them out. Some I've used before and I can confirm they've been good overall. I haven't tried all of them though. Always looking for more providers though that have a lot of respect for the First Amendment, etc..
Unfortunately, no readily available US-based dedicated servers or at least really affordable ones on that list that I have seen. I might have missed one. Terrahost (based out of Norway, I believe) does have a datacenter in Kansas City, but they are often out of stock or backordered, and they don't offer any entry-level servers in Kansas City (not that entry-level is mandatory, but they start at $129 and it's backordered every time I check). I have used Terrahost before though, and they are a decent provider in my experience.
Again, I am interested in other jurisdictions too, but US-based is preferred if possible.
BTW this isn't for a DMCA-ignore site, or anything like Kiwifarms, which of course pushes the boundaries of what freedom of speech is. (No intention to derail the thread about that topic or debate the legal/political issues, I know there are strong opinions about what that site is, and their hosting history.) But suffice it to say this is not for that kind of site.
US-based has some advantages for freedom of press for legal purposes for US-based publishers. So I'm always keeping my eye on services that are strong freedom of press/speech advocates.
16-50TB HDD (ex 4x 8TB), 1Gbps@100TB, 4cores, 16GB+ ram. EU / East Coast. Somewhere in $2-$3/TB region.
Normally I would go with Hetzner (which would be below $2/TB), but their ToS prohibits what I want to host.
OVH SyS is only 250Mbps.
ReliableSite doesnt have such config.
For now my idea is Hetzner + BuyVM reverse proxy, but I would prefer to have single box.
Thank you, will check out your services.
Several countries will accept that like Norway.
Providers like hostslick, buyvm, alexhost, terrahost, incognet will allow freedom of speech Pricing may depending on what you are looking for.
What you should do is looking what kind of hostings freedom of speech websites uses. If those help kiwifarms why won't support your freedom of speech? Even if is more soft.
You should take a look.

It's out of stock sadly. I need two of such servers in January, any stock incoming?
They always sell out quickly, but there will always be more.
I don't have any specific concerns, but where is Central.so located from a legal perspective? Dallas? NYC?
We're located out of Dallas, TX.
I would like two nodes for vps that would be proffitable openvz and kvm thanks
