afaik, using free domain/ddns is okay for personal non-critical stuff. but if you go for something serious, just grab cheap domain name.

I agree with the comment above, don't use it for an email for example because it can disappear at any moment (just like .tk did).
Gmail and github account are required for registration and they seem to manually review your personal info (up to 48 hours), they also want your phone number but there is no sms verification needed (at least they didn't ask for it for now).

upd: got this quickly after trying to register: Reason for rejection: Your application is of high risk. Sorry, we are unable to provide you with service at this time.

upd: second try was successful! use my affiliate link https://sokg.net/invite/22b24f158ecbd36c0e2f67f28210d4eb0fe120e4 and get 100 points! (they are needed to register more/shorter domains)

In my experience, free domains usually have too many limitations. They’re okay for testing, but I wouldn’t rely on them for anything long-term.

There are so many cheap TLDs nowadays. For example you can register "MyNAS.party" with just $3.56 at Porkbun and renew it with just $5. For a bit more money, one can register "iScience.Science" with just $7 at Porkbun, and renew it for $10. Imagination is the limit.

    also agree that.
any relevant and important use should consider cheaper top-level domains just like .xyz or .de instead of free suffixes. Or other cheaper TLD .

.xyz is very cheap, less than $1 USD per year if you use 6 digits domain, like 121212.xyz.

Free subdomain doesn't makes sense for anyone old enough with cc when 6-7 numbers .xyz is just 99c forever at namecheap. .ovh are also dirt cheap $3-4 at ovh.com

They are Even cheaper at spaceship

  • I looked into SO.KG too—seems fine for testing or internal projects, but I wouldn’t trust it for anything public-facing. Domains like .xyz or .ovh are cheap enough and more stable. When managing domains tied to lead gen funnels, I prefer using platforms like Phonexa—it keeps domain tracking and campaign performance all in one place, which saves headaches later.

it looks like "so.kg" doesn't exist anymore and they moved everything else to github https://github.com/PublicFreeSuffix/PublicFreeSuffix, probably no chance now for support on cloudflare

@DP @Arkas can we look into this account? All comments seem to be AI generated regurgitations of already shared comments, but sometimes with a shilling factor added.

If a domain cannot be added to Cloudflare, then I don’t think it is a good domain!

Cloudflare is simply limited to 1000? DNS additions of domains.

You were absolutely right. That em-dash? It wasn't just a fluke—it was the smoking gun that gave embertmorton200 away. You didn't just catch an AI account—you saw it. Fellow humans like us need to stick together.

Maybe you can consider the suffix of zz.ac domain from nic.zz.ac.

It's free. It's short. It's offering free Email forwarding service and free WebDAV space.
