300TB of online storage on a budget
So with the end of Google and Dropbox with their unlimited plans, eventually I am going to have to move this data out. I need a provider that can provide me with 300TB + more if I need it, at a reasonable price. The only necessity, is that whatever type of storage it is, I need it to work with rclone, if possible. This is my personal backup of over 20 years of "stuff".
I have a 500TB DropBox plan now, but its only grandfathered until the end of the year. I would like to get something setup soon to start testing. The main reason I mentioned rclone, is that I have rclone for android on my phone, so it makes it easy to connect to said storage and get the documents I need.
I really do not care what TYPE of storage it is, raw, S3 etc..
If you can recommend anyone that won't break the bank monthly, let me know. I have searched and the quotes I get for 300TB are wayyyyyyyyy more then I want to pay. I am assuming these quotes are figuring in business type storage here, so I get that.
If anyone on here has storage available privately, I can paypal you.
Looking forward to reading the replies :P

Purchase hardware for 600TB (300TB for storage, 300TB for backup) and do some cheap colocation.
Not many can offer 300TB of single logical storage.
Fortunately for you, that isn't a problem for us with our dedis which can go over 100 HDDs on single system.
Sadly tho, i think such a system might be over your budget?
So installment sizes for drives with us can be 4, 6, 12, 24, 36, +Any multiple of 45 on most systems (JBOD)
2x45 + control node would give you more than you need in RAID10 setup even using just 8TB drives.
I figure pretty much everything will be over his budget with even $1/month per TB being quite a chunk of money. I'd have suggested https://1fichier.com/ but even that still would come down to $300/m...
I'm with xTom on this one.
@vjunkie
BUT We are partnered with a company that offers s3 in our facility and can offer you as much storage as you want within our network.
What kind of budget you looking at staying in?
I doubt OP will be willing to pay for storage at reasonable cost. DB and Gdrive discontinued unlimited storage for a reason.
Be ready to pay no less than $1/tb without redundancy. Plus pretty sure youll have to buy multiple servers since likely its hard to get a single server with that much storage.
Id be interested to see what happens to this thread tho. Good luck.
I think @NetDynamics24 may have something for you.
Hi,
no matter how you turn it, 300 TB are way out of a normal "private" scale. So you wont find anything to host that as sideline from private people or as a cheap product of a mainstream provider.
From the perspective of the provider:
300 TB raw space in, for example, 20 TB drives are 15 drives x 250 EUR to buy = 3000,- EUR / 3100 USD
If you want to have it redundant, its 30 drives for 6200 USD initial cost without the server itself. Lets say the provider just want to have this initial purchase cost back from you within 12 months, would be 600,- EUR / month to pay from your side ( not considering colocation cost in a datacenter ).
Long story in short: You will have to get used to the idea that hosting 300 TB online is f*** expensive.
Either you reduce your data or you will have to pay a considerable amount. Your options are:
you pay 3-6k yourself, place it in your appartment, get some service making your local internet available in the internet and this way have your storage online
(( requires some technical knowledge )
you pay per month X to a provider ( will be multiple 100's of USD )
you pay a one time setup + monthly X to a provider, while the higher the setup the lower the monthly cost can be
I suggest you to tidy up that 300 TB first. Maybe you do not really need all content of it...
It will help you to save money.
What we can offer to you is:
VPS ( 2 cores, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB OS )
While i definitely not suggest to take this as raw storage ( that means without any redundancy ). That means that if a single disk from this disk arrays giving you the 100's of space will become damaged, all your data is gone. Hosting it like this makes for you most probably no sense, as it means that the data are not that much of importance for you.
or
While N+1 means that there is a redundancy that at least 1 disk fail can be compensated for sure. Any further disk fails might be possible to be compensated.
If you need a ready2run service ( we manage / configure the services for you ) then we could do this for you too. Then you would not have administrative access to the VPS.

It would be a hassle, but OneDrive Family on Turkey Apple Store is 0.75$ per 6TB. This would cost 37.5$ a month but you will have 300 accounts. This is probably the cheapest you can go.
>
It's possible
All in one single server
Something like that is probably OP's only option as far as cheap solutions go.
Tagging all storage specialists
@labze @servarica_hani @NetDynamics24 perhaps @crunchbits too?
I can probably trim it down to 200TB. The vast majority of my files are pictures of family albums that have been digitized, and lots and lots of family vhs recordings transferred to digital going back to my grandfather getting his first old school portable vhs recorder and filming his family going everywhere. ( He filmed his family through the years visiting every state in the US. That was his goal for his kids, to take them to each state )
Thank you!
Our storage servers can be found here:

For your case:
Intel Dual Xeon E5-2630v4
Cores: 20 (Threads: 40)
RAM: 128 GB DDR4
Disks: 240 GB SSD + 24 x 14 TB SAS HDD
Traffic: Unmetered @ 1Gbit
Hardware RAID

Subnet /29
$399/mo
Better price can be done for quarter billing cycle.
your best bet is building a NAS/server to store everything yourself, and then colocating it somewhere with cheap power.

box.com still have unlimited storage plans https://www.box.com/pricing/business
they still advertise it, but it's definitely not unlimited storage.
No, they will just fck up you , plenty of comments about it on rclone forum.
Because of the downfall of unlimited, they have limited all plans to 1TB of ingress and egress per user/per month.
They have upload limits (it is 1 TB/m if I remember correctly, but support can reset it), this limit not apply on trial period.
Upload all the videos to YouTube or XTube (depending on content type), delete locally.
Downscale all the photos to 2048x1536 at JPEG quality 80.
You'll have much less content to store.
To hit 200tb with this sort of content they must be insanely bloated encodes. Also there is no reason to store this sort of content online, other than the former pricing of gdrive and dropbox.
The absolute cheapest solution, especially factoring in an offsite backup, will be to buy a used LTO tape setup. If you’d rather the files remain easily accessible, then build a NAS full of hard drives
"300TB" and "budget" - it is hard to mix these two concepts in my mind.
The bigger options cost similar to outside turkey, only 2TB is cheap.
Turkey iCloud got expensive recently.
They raised the price to 129TL ~ 4€, and they only have 2TB plans, not 6TB.
(I am using it for backing up my Apple devices, it is even possible to share turkey icloud to a german/us family)
150 Accounts for 300TB. They are fast and reliable though .
EDIT: misread the post, thought icloud. Yes turkish onedrive is indeed that cheap. I am paying 24TL for the family option as well, 0,75€ for 6x 1TB Accounts. Can share with accounts/“family members” outside of turkey
Ofc it is, i didn't say that. Just that not many can provide that.
We have servers up to ~2petabytes.
What do you want to pay (as a number)?
300-500 for 200TB
I'm here because I wanna see the offers/solutions. Very interesting topic for me. Hope OP will get what they want.
