Interserver VPS Review

r33kr33k Member

This is a short review about my time using Interserver for a VPS in their NYC location.

I used them for about 4 months as a redundant database replica node because it was very close to our node in Secaucus, NJ and still within 10ms from our other node in Ashburn, VA. I didn't need the VM to be fast or even have amazing uptime, just to not flap or freeze constantly. Unfortunately, that's exactly what it did.

When other nodes were rebooted after upgrades, our Interserver VPS would sometimes be elected as the primary node, but it would constantly stall and freeze up. I'm not quite sure if it was a network problem or the hypervisor being overcommitted, but whatever the reason, it was both extremely slow and extremely unreliable. This was a problem for us, because if it was ever elected primary, our DB traffic would slow down or freeze for seconds at a time, but not long enough for another node to be elected as the new primary.

Over all, Interserver's VPS hosting was just bad. Even when it wasn't having issues, it was extremely slow. I can't recommend them for VPS at all.
