They have Rocky 8 ISO available in Solus VM.

IMO the easiest approach is to boot into netboot.xyz using iPXE or grub-imageboot (see the netboot.xyz site for documentation) then install any distro it supports.

I dont think GreenCloudVPS @NDTN provides any Netboot.xyz iso, correct?

Connect to your VPS via VNC, and then reboot it. While booting, if it lets you press Escape, Delete, or F12 to select boot device and iPXE is an option, or there's an iPXE prompt during that lets you press Ctrl-B to enter a command, you can boot into netboot.xyz via iPXE: https://netboot.xyz/docs/booting/ipxe.

This is "network booting" or "netbooting", which is what netboot.xyz is named after.

Otherwise, if you have an existing Debian (or Ubuntu) installation, you can use grub-imageboot to add netboot.xyz to the GRUB menu: https://netboot.xyz/docs/booting/grub. Then just select it when booting

(I wrote both of those doc pages  )

Seems the reboot happens too fast via vnc... I just tried it on a vps... sigh ...

Then VNC is available for 2222 packages? (That would have been my next question. :))

Are you connected to VNC while the reboot is happening?

If reboot is too fast, try the GRUB approach instead. If the GRUB menu disappears too quickly, you can increase the timeout in the GRUB config

@schneitomee said: Then VNC is available for 2222 packages?

As far as I know, all their packages have VNC access. I've got a 9999 package from their birthday sale as well as a "Premium KVM", and both have VNC access.

    Time to idle!

    Haha, goodness...

  • The MO ping/tracert test IP returned a hit on BRBL. In general, will greencloud's IP space be flagged? Any differences between DCs (maybe IL/TX are better?)

Am looking to purchase a vps to run the webapp frontend (looking at the 6666 eypc offer) to add to the SJC storage server I already picked up, but prefer a clean IP.

  • @AXYZE said: Why would you use OpenVPN in 2022 over other solutions like WireGuard or something like v2ray?

In my usage scenario, I needed TCP instead of UDP, and compatibility with the rest of the devices out of the box.

What I managed to squeeze out of the server. The speed test was with the UDP protocol in both cases.

    loc/server:Amsterdam (Netprotect) ~50mi OpenVPN Dw-205.70/Up-261.29Mbps
    loc/server:Amsterdam (Netprotect) ~50mi WireGuard Dw-367.91/Up-259.60Mbps

    Server Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz (CPU cores - 1)

Of course, purely based on speed, Shadowsocks->WireGuard->OpenVPN

By the way, with some VPN providers I have seen speeds close to ~600Mbps with an OpenVPN connection

Grabbed a NL one two days ago, the performance is good! Here for the giveaways:)

Could you please share the yabs.

6666 NL. I have reconfigured the network interfaces to get proper IPv6 internet access.
