    Holy, Mr Sunny is based

  • The second page was a lot harder, had to re-roll many times due to my comments :)

    And the winners are:
    @vpssh @Xrmaddness @bdspice

    Check your PMs!

For everyone else, keep posting! If I don't receive a lot more comments, I will roll a few more on pages 1 and 2 to those who participated but didn't get one.

    Good evening!

We have more free VPSes available! Please see the OP for details.

As explained in the OP, please make a charitable donation or else a meaningful post in this thread to qualify. Don't forget to include "#ThanksGTHost".

@TheOnlyDK and I want to give you your free VPS courtesy of GTHost!

  • Cool promo. I don't qualify but good luck everyone.

  • Thanks to @TheOnlyDK @Not_Oles @GTHost for the great project. Will move the demo site of my github project from heroku to here immediately if i'm lucky.

    ThanksGTHost

  • I would like to use it to learn multiple Linux commands.
Ubuntu Debian CentOS Fedora Redhat Alma...
I want to learn different commands for each OS, such as firewall configuration commands.

the size of your charitable contribution interested us.

You shouldn't shame people on the size of charitable contribution.
These are some of my smallest donations:

    • USD $0.25 cash
    • CNY Β₯5 bank transfer
    • one can of beans
    • two used shirts
    • two used ceramic bowls
    • three toothbrushes
    • six rolls of toilet paper

Every time, the recipient was happy to take my donation.

Doubt that. What else could they do?

You can match VPS specβ€’duration to the donation amount.
For example, $5 donation gets 512MB 10GB plan for 3 months.
More donation translates to higher spec or longer duration.

Donations are tax-deductible for the donor.
Thus, the line could be higher than an equivalent VPS from a commercial provider.

Is this a registered charity? No. You can't just give money away and claim it's a tax deductible donation (especially getting something in return).

I hope you're not deducting two ceramic bowls from your taxes.

The two ceramic bowls were given to Salvation Army in Tucson AZ.
Salvation Army is a registered charity in Arizona.
For my 2017 Arizona tax return, I can reduce taxable income by $2.

In 2021, I gave $25 (credit charge) to local NPR station, and received a Boomer VPS after posted the receipt on this forum.
For my 2021 federal tax return, I can deduct $25 tax (it's better than Arizona's deducting taxable income).
NPR did not give me the VPS, so that it doesn't affect tax deduction.

  • The name is intentional right?. I read it as shitty host.

    Hello!

Time has passed without page 3 filling completely. We want to give out more free VPSes courtesy of @GTHost.

One method of selection with page 3 incomplete would be to give VPSes to each of the 3 people who posted in page 3 because the idea in the OP was to award 3 VPSes per page. However, this method would give 100% probability of winning to the page 3 posters instead of the 30% probability envisioned in the OP.

Therefore, @TheOnlyDK and I have decided to roll among all those who have posted but do not already have one of the VPSes. Here's what that group seems to look like:

Congrats, @Digika and @stephanuk . Good luck to everyone else as well.
Heroku planned to stop offering their free plans in the coming time. Thus, I'm going to have to migrate the demo site of my github project to another place. This gift is exactly what I need at the moment.
Wonder if I could possibly get more RAM. It needs at least 900MB RAM to run a docker container with the stack (nginx, postgresql, rails, redis, unicorn and capistrano). My demo web app consumes about 800MB RAM in total to serve the first request only. Then, the data is saved to the memory cache for reducing server load and faster loading at each subsequent page visit.

    Hi @jwg29859!

Glad you're happy with your win!

About your request for more memory. I will talk it over with @TheOnlyDK. We will see what we can do.

As much as I really, really don't wanna rain on the parade, this is a new project, and we don't know how long it will last. Given the amount of time you seem to have invested in your demo site for your Github project, perhaps you should consider getting a VPS with a long established, big, and dependable provider for your demo project? Then you still could use your free NAT KVM courtesy of @GTHost for testing or other fun stuff? :) Please don't take me wrong. I'm not saying you can't run your demo with us. :)

    Best wishes and kindest regards,

    Tom

    Hello everyone!

I think @TheOnlyDK probably will provision our three new winners tomorrow.

Does anyone else want to participate? We hope to give out 7 more VPSes. So there might be another roll before too long. If you want to participate, please follow your choice of the two options in the OP.

    Thanks to @GTHost!

Best wishes from NYC and Sonora! πŸ—½πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡²πŸ‡½πŸœοΈ

It's very kind of you to accept my request. 900MB is enough for me to deploy the project. More will be better but I don't want to sound greedy. There are still a lot of people waiting in line.

  • I got one earlier, which i intended to learn reverse proxy, mysql replicating, load balancing, data synchronize etc. But i am already done my half study with other vpses from other providers. Still need to learn other half which not really need now. So i dont need the vps i won here. I think it will be usefull for someone else here. I am very thankful for my first reward here. Thanks GTHost.
Please give my vps to someone else who need actually.
