I would like to ask,

My current blog is now moved to the BuyVM, and when I configure it for working with IPv6, it would run, and can be accessed, even if the website is IPv6 only. For example, is this

I have VPS from the following provider :
- BuyVM - OpenVZ 256
- IperWeb - OpenVZ VZ5
- Hostigation - LA OpenVZ 256
- Misterhost - DE OpenVZ 128
- SSHVM - OpenVZ VPS1

All of them have IPv6 enabled, running Ubuntu 10.04 32bit and running Lighttpd 1.4.26 ( installed with : apt-get install lighttpd )

I have copied the same folder of /etc/lighttpd from BuyVM to all of the VPS, and set the AAAA from NameCheap to each IPv6 provided by each host.

But when I start the Lighttpd, only BuyVM can run. Others were failed. Or even if running, when I open the website with IPv6 only, they are not available. Always some note like no route, or inaccessible.

This is the configuration of Lighttpd which only run at BuyVM :

/etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf

------------------------
include_shell "/usr/share/lighttpd/use-ipv6.pl"
server.socket = "[::]:80"

If I put comment # at those two lines, Lighttpd would run, and the website can be accessed via IPv6.
But if I use the same configuration at another provider without comment, Lighttpd can not run.

So, is there any special configuration placed in BuyVM which is not available for another provider?
Or maybe there is something I have to set?

I've been wanting to spin up an OpenBSD VPS for a while and finally got around to doing it yesterday.

Tried spinning up a 4.x last fall and there were some KVM issues. But 5.0 worked out of the box like a charm on a 128MB KVM from Hostigation.

The Realtek network interface is not supported under OpenBSD (you get constant "re0 watchdog timeout" errors), but the Intel PRO/1000 nic works just fine.

Next steps:
- use config to lean/mean-icize the kernel to strip out unneeded drivers. On a bigger box I wouldn't bother but with only 128MB of memory, I'd like to squeeze out some megabytes.
- pull out the pf manual to configure the firewall
- modify /var/log partition to be append-only
- I might play with immutable files once I get things setup the way I want. immutable files are a very nice *BSD feature - you set a kernel level so that the files cannot be changed without booting into the console. Typically used for core config files, firewall rules, etc.
- play some more :-)

Hostigation.Com Review - Team Tim!
========================

So I completed my BuyVM Review, and since then have waited before moving on to my Hostigation review. Bit of background, I'm just a customer who uses a lot of VPSs for different websites, web applications, phone applications and CRM based applications. I currently have services spread over Crucial Paradigm, Exigent, RackSpace and LiquidWeb, BuyVM and OnePoundWebhosting.

Signup Process
Well, if you're not scared off by the Zombie on the front of Hostigation you will find yourself in familiar waters, WHMCS signup form. Tim informs me that the Zombie keeps the scammers away, I can see how that would work ;)

VPS Setups
I have all KVM based VPSs with Hostigation:
1x 2048mb KVM Monthly (Webserver)
1x 2048mb KVM Monthly (Webserver)
3x 1024mb KVM Monthly (SQL, Web & Application Servers)
1x 512mb KVM Monthly (Application Server)
1x 100gb NAS

VPS Reliability
100% Uptime for the first month across all current VPS'. Included below is a photo of the uptime of one of my WebServers running DirectAdmin.

Uptime: http://i.imgur.com/2aVj2.png

The 1 Man Band
Now I really feel I need to bring this to attention, in a positive way. I see a lot of companies out there that try to pretend to be bigger than they are, make aliases on their support desks to give the look that they have multiple staff etc. Tim however does not, and I really appreciate his no bullcrap approach to this and being up front. After getting to know Tim a bit over the last month I would say I trust him more with my services than some of the larger known providers I use, in fact, his support and attention to detail has been far superior in some aspects.

Support & Communication
Both have been flawless, absolutely flawless. Whilst i'm on unmanaged VPSs there are things I need to open tickets for, regarding additional IPs, Hard Drive Space, NAS storage etc. No tickets have gone unanswered, and all tickets have been answered quickly. Most certainly Tim takes the support side of Hostigation seriously, as the responses are either "done." Or they are "done + explanation" which avoids you needing to open another ticket asking "what now?"

Tim keeps his Announcements page up to date, more so than many other hosts. I realised this after a hiccup with my first VPS I had purchased there which at the time was a small 30gb backup, and he shot me a link to the announcements.

Hostigation Ticket: http://i.imgur.com/v0zL8.jpg
Hostigation Ticket: http://i.imgur.com/7zp59.jpg

Technical Proficiency
I call him "Team Tim" in private, so this will be the first he hears of it. However Tim has the technical proficiency of a whole team between those two ears of his. There has been times where I have struggled with things and I have spent a lot of time (in some cases multiple days) reading and researching the issue. Tim so eloquently puts it to me that "can only watch a man beat himself in the head for so long" and 20 seconds later all is well in the world and my issues are solved. At which point I then go and look in the history to see what he has done, and sure enough it's one of his ninja lines of code that has solved everything.

There hasn't been an issue that Tim has had to "research" associated with my account. He just "knows." All of my VPSs with Hostigation are KVM based, I have enough confidence in Hostigation even though they're a budget provider that I have confidently put production level services with Hostigation.

The Network & Nodes
MY KVM's are based in LA, California. The network is good to excellent, and I am getting well above the speeds and rates I expected to get at this price range for a VPS. Certainly is not over saturated, and I don't get huge gaps in transmission and packet loss, it is consistently stable and reliable. The performance of the Nodes themselves I find excellent for high CPU usage applications.

Below is taken from my 1gb KVM Webserver:

joel@web:~$ wget -O /dev/null http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test

GeekBench Score 5813: http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/539040

Overall
After nearly 2 months with Hostigation I simply can't fault them, the term "under promised and over delivered" is what comes to mind. For a 1 man band outfit Hostigation punches well above its weight, and consistently delivers reliable results. When I initially looked at Hostigation I was looking for value for money, now I don't look at Hostigation the same way, what I see is quality for the money I spend there.

If and when Tim does decide to expand and bring on staff, I just hope they are 25% as knowledgable and proficient as he is.

A final note, I pay for all of my VPS's with Hostigation. I'm not on some "deal" and Tim doesn't give me any freebies, there's no sponsorship, back-scratching or shady endorsement deals going on that you see with some companies throwing 12 years olds free VPSs. I am more than happy to give you a link if you send me a PM to sites hosted with Hostigation for your own curiosity, and a link to the status page where you can see the loads and current network I/O etc.

Regards,

Joel

Copy of mass email sent, but many bounces so posting here FYI, come on people, have valid email in your accounts ;)

****This is a mass email****

I've installed the latest SolusVM beta on https://solus.hostigation.com:5656 and the two big features are reverse dns for IPv6 and forward dns. Please set your rdns for IPv6 if you wish, I am working on getting the rdns servers authoritative for all the IPv6 zones.

Forward DNS is now available directly in SolusVM as well, I have enabled the function for everyone, you are all able to add upto 100,000 dns records, so hopefully that will be enough. The DNS cluster is diversely located on Hostigation VPS servers in Los Angeles CA and Charlotte NC. If you make use of this feature, you will want to set the nameservers at your registrar to:

rdns1.hostigation.com 69.85.93.8
rdns2.hostigation.com 69.85.88.152

Some registrars require the IP, some do not.

If you have dns already hosted via the free cPanel managed dns service, you have no need to move over, and can continue to use that service at no charge, this is simply available to everyone now.

And since this is beta software, please kick the tires, and report any problems found and I will pass anything on to SolusLabs

I am moving away from a bloated (cPanel) an expensive VPS (ServInt) and would like to optimize it as much as (nginx, no control panel). I am narrowing it down to two choices that seems strong on these boards, Hostigation, BuyVM or Secure Dragon.

It will actually host 4-5 sites that gets low traffic (less than 100 visitors / day each).

I am posting to see if anyone had experience with both hosts. The priority are:
- Reliable (no unplanned downtime)
- Support in case of messup (I'm learning to self-admin the VPS and would like someone to be willing and fast to help in case I mess up the OS or lock myself out...)
- Ease and speed of upgrade to larger package as sites growth
- Value

I am looking at the 128 or 256 MB Xen/KVM plans...

Thanks!

Okay so I've been checking the WHOIS of various websites and I have been looking at the server stats. While taking a look at them I see that the name of company is displayed there for example if I log over to hostigation.com WHOIS and click server stats it shows me 'California- Pacific Palisades- Hostigation' Now my question is how does hostigation get it's name there and even if it buys the IP Address how does it assign it to the current internet provider they are running on? This thing has been bugging me since quite a lot of time.

Thank You,
Marvel
