So far, so good. Note that the uptime is only 2 days because I reinstalled, not because of the provider.

    nick@france:~$ wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash

  • Should SSDs get faster IO than that? I'm getting 212MB/s on my BuyVM 256 Buffalo KVM. Seems like a decent deal other than the claim that the nodes aren't oversold. Every OVZ provider says that.

    The test I used uses dd if=/dev/zero of=test_$$ bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync

From what I understand, there's a different conv option that should be used for SSDs to give more accurate results, but I forget what it is at the moment.

    Decent FIO results.

@Soylent said: Should SSDs get faster IO than that?

Nope, not really. SSD's strong point is not high sequential speed, but rather very high random I/O performance (aka high IOPS), which is what matters in multi-user workload like VPSes.

You have used the correct one. But it can be said that this test doesn't show SSD's real strength vs an HDD fairly. Rather, one should look at ioping results.

    ioping / -R

    Kimsufi dedicated server w/1TB HDD:

    1400 requests completed in 3000.2 ms, 482 iops, 1.9 mb/s
    min/avg/max/mdev = 0.1/2.1/23.7/2.9 ms

    SSDVM VPS:

    12509 requests completed in 3000.0 ms, 5430 iops, 21.2 mb/s
    min/avg/max/mdev = 0.0/0.2/2.9/0.0 ms

more than 10x faster than an HDD.

    @NanoG6, is it good?
    Recomended to purchase?

  • So far my vps perform good and snappy. :D

  • @gkz said: is it good?

Yes I recommend them. It's i5 CPU, but I got 4 core of it. SSD performance is stable and decent.
Support ticket answered quickly as well :)

  • Why no annual billing? I'd rather not be nickle-and-dimed for $4.50/month.

  • Annual billing will be added somewhere next month.
