Hey guys, just a quick heads up.. the APC is on sale starting this morning (PST) at Newegg for $49.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-181-041

This little beauty looks like a fantastic alternative for many people who were looking to use the Raspberry Pi for functional uses rather than educational uses.

If I was in the US, I'd definitely be hopping online to Newegg to get mine straight away. Hope some of you find this useful!

Enjoy :)

This has been out for a while now in the UK, I think it's being released in the US & Canada today.

@liam said: they're located in the 'british' indian ocean?

They're just using the domain as a hack to go with the name. IO.. Input/Output?

I got an email from them this morning, binned it as it's not relevant to me.

They're going to add support to run Linux, or unlock the hardware to let developers do it at some point. The native Android actually runs pretty well on it.

    bah android

  • They should of put iOS on it.

  • Putting iOS on it would completely ruin it.
It would stop any kind of development aspect, as it is a stronghold AGAINST open-source.
    No, just no.

Does APC support other operating systems?
Our own efforts will be focused on developing and supporting a stable, high-quality Android system. However, our hardware will be unlocked.

I was being sarcastic, due to what fly said.

Oh yeah forgot about that too!

Performane isn't the reason people are buying this. Mobility and cost are the key points and it excels at both.

  • I hate international shipping costs.

This is just the "continuation of a beginning that started" with intel atom boards for desktop (nettop).
Ppl are thinking of power usage and need 24/7 servers at home.
As I said on another thread, I think one of those raspberry pi, this is going to increase pace. An atom board here is 80 $ or so including tax and shipping: http://www.cel.ro/placi-de-baza/placa-de-baza-intel-d2700mud-bulk-l/
That draws some 35 watt with real 3.5 HDD SATA 2 TB and full load+4 GB ram.
Much better, but not completely silent Bobcat board costs 2.5 dollars more:
    http://www.cel.ro/placi-de-baza/placa-de-baza-msi-e350is_e45-plus-amd-dual-core-e350-l/
The latter runs 3-4 vms like a pro in 8 gb ram and at max uses40 Watts but with 2 HDDs.
That is a toy and does not convince me, but when will be 20 dollars a piece, the size of a small router with a hard drive inside or I will attach an usb one/key, running some virtualization, I will get one. I payed 30 Eur on my thinn client and to upgrade memory and CF to 1 gb and 16 gb respectively costed 15 euro more, it draws 25 watts and barely runs some vms, when an arm thing like those will do the same at at least this price, I will get one. I hope by the new year time.
