How small is your Bind9+Server?

How small is your Bind9+Server?

Looking to find out how small you have managed to get your server (Debian or Ubuntu) and Bind9 down to? If you could share your ram usage and how many records you have on there would be great.

Regards,

Joel

  • RAM usage:

    root@ns1 [/]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 512 255 256 0 0 30
    -/+ buffers/cache: 225 286
    Swap: 0 0 0

    And record count:

    root@ns1 [/]# ls -alh /var/named/*.db | wc -l
    928

I should add, these are running cpanel DNSONLY, so the RAM usage will be lower by at least 100MB.

  • I believe you get the lowest overall RAM usage while using BIND with Debian5 then probably Centos5.
