EDIS HK test server network issues -- ping spikes and dropping packets

Hi, I would like to check if this is normal or just some kind of fluke with the test server

From Shanghai on China Telecom I am getting between 4-8% packet loss to the test server in HK, while I get around 1% to hk.vr.org. Also pinging from my box at VR.org I found some spikes up to 206ms from a regular ping of around 2 ms. Is the test box just overloaded or is this what to expect from the VPS in normal operation? I'd like to switch but I'd rather spend the money if i can avoid spikes and packet loss. Aside from this I've noticed that the routing through pacnet is looking really good now from the looking glass, but I need reliability too..

--- 158.255.208.1 ping statistics ---
143 packets transmitted, 143 received, 0% packet loss, time 142210ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 1.628/7.313/206.951/29.213 ms

Yes, you can go complain at China Netcom, Telecom and Railway for overloading their links to HK - Nothing we or the DC can do about it.
vr.org uses a completely different path, which is why they can avoid it partly.

  • Over-saturated lines I guess. I've noticed the same recently, and really there's nothing we can do with this kind of problem.

  • That still doesn't explain why I sometimes get spikes up to 200 ms ping from Hong Kong -> Hong Kong.

  • Try a traceroute. It'll give you a more detailed look at where the latency starts.

  • Bandwidth incoming too small

Often to upgrade data china, very slow

    Contact the lower and vr

  • Recently the network of china telecom is ajusting,so don't waste time to test network. And the network in china is really complicated, there is no absolute stability.
I was testing network all the time,EDIS's new HK DC is always the fastest level.

@usiew my edis HK is very good. Suspect you abuse your bandwidth and are under limiting.

Well, from a topical point of view adding something to the same topic is quite logic and saving numerous scattered threads on the same topic.
