  • @jarland Not complaining, it's just, hearing 'FDC' will turn away a lot of clients (similar to cogent) Their Denver location is infamous for being shitty too, anyway.

If you're colocating and have your own gear (I doubt you can supplement the generator, but eh), I suppose it'll be okay.

  • flyfly Member

yeah, lfc is in fdc denver but they have their own routers and stuff so it's fine.

  • By the way, if anyone wants a contact in Dacentec:

I think he is very firm with the price so don't expect any discount from him, but he is really nice and professional.

Server cost 225 to buy outright but there is only 90 day warranty after that, if you colo with them, after 3 months the 4th month would be free (don't think it is recurring though)

  • The servers are 1U and 1/2W, and they have lowered their price for 1U colo as well:

    Seems legit.

  • flyfly Member

yeah i heard it was pretty legit. i'd take the server home instead of continuing to colo there tho.

Care to explain? I am actually thinking of buying it upfront

  • By the way, is 225 for such a server a good deal?

  • flyfly Member

    $225 for which particular build?

also, I'm saying that personally I would rather have it closer to me and with better bandwidth.

@zhuanyi $225 for this config is doable however i doubt the hardware used time.so i would prefer rent it to own with them, anyway, hardware replacement is guaranteed in rental span.

  • @dearroy said: o i would prefer rent it to own with them

We are talking about 200 bucks of differences here, wondering if it worth to take the risk

the 200 dollar difference goes towards colocation costs...

  • @fly said: the 200 dollar difference goes towards colocation costs...

    Well, if you buy outright: 225 (server cost) + 40 (colo per month) * (12 - 1) = 665
    If you RTO: 65 * 12 = 780

    Difference is 115 bucks

  • flyfly Member

obviously they need a profit margin....
    i would buy it.

  • Don't forget that while you're in the 12 month period, you have your warranty for the whole period, if you buy the server, and then colo it with them, you're only getting the 90 day warranty.

  • Where do you see on their website that you can buy it for right away?

  • dearroydearroy Member, Host Rep

@Wolf95 that is what i concerned,'cause you never know the hardware is going wrong before something crashed, you have to purchase this part from other place which cost more.

Colo with them at this price you will only get 2TB transfer howerver if you rent, this num will be 10TB.

It's not on their website, you have to contact him.

  • I don't understand these rent to own incentives. Wouldn't they just give you their crapiest hardware?

Not necessarily. They lock you into a contract a lot of the times and you just pay a bit more on the monthly bill, over the course of a certain time. From a buyer and provider perspective it is viable in terms of costs.

They are offering HP's now!! I ordered one, here's the link

    Specs:
    Unmanaged HP Dedicated $65.00/month
Used HP SE1101 2x L5420 Xeon Quad Core 2.5GHz 16GB ECC RAM 500GB Enterprise SATA
    Gigabit Port
    10 TB monthly transfer.
    1 Free IP
Free Lantronix IP KVM loan on request
NO LOCK IN - Month-to-Month Contract - Cancel anytime
Rent To Own - Pay for 12 months and the server is yours, continue colo or take the server.
Hardware replacement including disk is free during the rental period.
    Remote Reboot
    Automated OS Installs
    Bandwidth Graph
    UNMANAGED

  • I have a upcoming deal on LowEndBox that will blow that out off the water.

It's not rent to own though.

  • @Dionysus

I actually did not stay with them long enough to find out cause I canceled since they wanted to swip the IP with my info.. but for the week or two I was with them they were excellent!! and they actually gave me a full refund cause of the IP issue.

  • old junk server?

  • @Jack said: they make $420 towards colo fee...

    They make more than that:

    @Jack said: 4x 146GB SAS HP Branded

the Dacentec configuration has only a single 500GB SATA drive

  • @zhuanyi Dacentec have SAS drives available, you need to contact sales for pricing

  • @StormVZ said: Dacentec have SAS drives available, you need to contact sales for pricing

I have not tried that, but I guess I am just saying they the unit they have provided at 65 per month worth less than what @Jack has quoted :)

@zhuyani Ah yeah, my bad :P

On a side note they probably already turned the server into profit and now clearing it hence it being marked as "Used" and buy out via colo which they said would be around $50/mo with same plan
