KVM Beta Testing

KVM Beta Testing

JackJack Member
edited June 2012 in General

Hey,

We are going to be expanding to KVM soon but before we put it into production , We are running a Beta testing month.

There are very limited places for this.

To make sure everyone has a fair chance I'll be releasing 2 now and another 4 on Monday.

All I ask is that you post if you find any issues and share your thoughts.

Currently the only ISO we have is CentOS5 you can request any you want via ticket or here.. :)

Plan is as follows: 15GB Disk 1024MB RAM 500GB bandwidth

https://dotvps.net/portal/cart.php?a=add&pid=119

Thanks for reading.

how long do we keep this kvm?

  • JackJack Member

The node was purchased today so depending on the feedback probably until 22nd of next month.

I'll decide at a later date.

doing it with centos, don't know exact mirror site so I am using prometeus mirror site. since it's from Italy, will take some time to finish.

  • LAKidLAKid Member

would you upload centos 5 or 6, not 5.8, and 32bit too, thanks.

  • Do you have Debian 6 32bit?

Only reason for limited stock is due to only having a /29...

I'm asking the guys on Livechat if they can give me another now.

If not it will be monday.

  • Thank you :)

installing centos 5.8 64bit now, seems going smooth..took time to find out mirror site again for 64bit. will just run server and see what happens...not desktop or any other crap...

    That's why I pm'd you.. :)

  • LAKidLAKid Member

that's the one I am using:), I read your mind or you did mine, whatever, it's going smooth...

I have literally seen 100 new hosts start doing KVM this month.

  • LAKidLAKid Member

If you have time, upload centos 6, I have a bad experience with this with the respect of memory usage, so after 5.8, let me do 6,..

@FTN_Kevin We aren't technically starting it ;) , Just testing it.

  • LAKidLAKid Member

@FTN_Kevin thanks for helping me this afternoon for L.A node, it's good now. Are you gonna go into? don't..

    Awesome :)

@LAKid said: Are you gonna go into? don't..

It was just an observation.. no, URPad has no plans for KVM, its not our cup of tea. This is not to mention that some of the best people/companies we partner with for purchasing excess hardware from, etc sell KVM and we wouldn't want to compete with them.

I use same technique when I got 128mb buyvm. Just be there at the right time, and make sure you click fast =)

Which version was that released in?

edit: I edited your VM to virtio [Disk driver updated. You need to reboot the virtual server for the changes to take affect.]

  • Ah only 3? Should have 256mb or 512mb instead of 1024 mb :p

RAM isn't the issue ;) , IP's are only got a /29 with the node.

    I didn't care much about 5.8, so, no virtio enabled, whatever it was... 3rd time [root@ssl ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; rm test 16384+0 records in 16384+0 records out 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 27.2108 seconds, 39.5 MB/s

Now I am going for 6, I want to see memory usage.

  • LAKidLAKid Member

to satisfy you, here is 4th one.

    [root@ssl ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; rm test 16384+0 records in 16384+0 records out 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 28.6239 seconds, 37.5 MB/s

  • On another VPS, I had centos 5 installed. It would get ~50mb/s dd tests, then I installed centos 6 and was able to get 400MB/s.
