What type of virtualization is this?

@jcaleb All VPSGrid cloud based on OpenVZ. KVM will be available in a few weeks at similar pricing, however, our VZ servers tend to outperform KVM, so it all depends on what you're looking to do.

@vdnet Nice offer. I look forward to your KVM offering.

  • A little bit offtopic, but in all due fairness adding up CPU core frequencies is a very awry marketing stunt.

Not really a marketing ploy, it is how we rate the level of CPU you get. You get access to the equivalent of X GHz from a Ivy bridge. Hence, if you are put on one of our L5600 Xeon servers, you'll get more GHz / Cores than a newer system. We don't limit you based on cores, we limit you based on percentage of the host system in comparison to Ivy Bridge benchmarks so every customer has equivalent multithreaded CPU power.

If you are running an app that isn't multithreaded then we can place you on a system that provides more GHz per Core, but obviously a 7.2GHz processor doesn't exist.

The protected storage servers are mostly geared towards backups. So most transfer would be inbound unless you need to restore a server in which case, transferring your entire hard drive more than once per month would be rare. There are various ways you can reduce your bandwidth usage, including rsync. Have a look at a post I put up here: http://www.byteonsite.com/community/?dwqa-question=bandwidth-on-protected-storage-servers

  • great offer, I would like to buy one

    Thanked by 1vdnet
  • @vdnet, price for 500 GB?

We aren't offering this yet but we plan on releasing a 500GB or similar special to LET at the end of the month. If you don't want to wait until then, email me at devon.b byteonsite.com and we'll see what we can work out for you.

  • I tried using 48AYEAR for 1 TB protected storage, it doesn't work.

Yes, the specials in this thread are long expired. We are launching some new systems very shortly and that is when we will reintroduce specials. Right now we are not offering any promotions.

  • @vdnet when are the new storage specials coming?

I don't have an exact ETA yet. My assumption is they will be up and running mid-March.
