Directional DNS Hosting?

I'm looking at increasing the connection speed of a web application I have by having it hosted on servers across the globe. One option I am looking at is using directional DNS (which returns the IP address that is closest), but I am having troubles finding a good solution for this. Rage4 has lots of geographic regions you can choose from, but it doesn't seem to have true anycast name servers (I have included a couple traceroutes to show this). I also tried DNSMadeEasy which has anycast name servers, but there's only about 4 geographic regions you can choose from. Everywhere else I look is way too expensive and/or doesn't support directional DNS records. Any suggestions?

  • Actually there are not many other options to do this. You may have a look at dyn.com, but they are more expensive than DNSME and Rage4. You may also try to contact @gbshouse about the problem you have with Rage4,

@ub3rstar - anycast doesn't mean that it will be closest PoP from geographical point of view. What do you mean by "true anycast"?

AS62638 prefers route over PCCW (our new PoP in Dallas is in-progress)

AS16276 has own connectivity between NA and EU and they route everything via AMS - there is not much we can do to affect this route

  • @r0t3n Their cheapest plan is $200/Month that is far away from the Rage4 price.

@infolink depends on your needs, their free plan is fairly generous and as always if you have custom needs im sure you can fire an email off to them...
