VPS Classic 1 (OVH)

Hi,

I've just noticed OVH offers VPS for like a 2€/mo and I was wondering whatever it's any good? Is it actually worth the money? Thanks.

I have one, it's pretty dam good with 1GB ram and 10TB transfer, I doubt any other hosts can offer that bandwidth and ram for 2 euro. Mine has a Opteron 4386 cpu (nice to see someone using amd for a change) which Unixbenched at a little over 1000 when i tested it. Disk write speed is fairly normal though at 140-150mb/s

Does this mean you can get a different CPU from node to node? Thanks for the info by the way.

Node sure to be honest, I'd imagine they'd have a load of very similar CPU's for vps hosting. So there wouldn't be much difference between users. I've only got one though so I'm not sure.

    Oooooold neeews http://lowendtalk.com/discussion/23665/ovh-classic-vps-back-starting-at-2-eur-month-for-1c-1gb-ram-10gb/p1
also those seem to suck in unixbench for some reason.

    Thanks for linking me this.

Edit: guess I should stay away from OVH then..

The main promise of this VPS is the free DDoS protection.

Yeah, but on the other hand what good does that do if the nodes are being heavily oversold.

Not getting hit off by script kiddies, assuming your node doesn't explode first.

    Read comment #8.

Edit: I could be wrong though, either way it's a good deal.

Yeah, 10TB of DDOS protected bandwidth for ~$3/month is pretty awesome. I was very pleased with OVH's BHS network when I had a dedi there, as well.

They are referring to the more expensive VPS cloud ones. Those ones have TUN/TAP

Yeah I also realised that after. It's kinda shame though.

    Thu Mar 20 21:19:07 2014 TUN/TAP device tun0 opened
    Thu Mar 20 21:19:07 2014 TUN/TAP TX queue length set to 100

    Works fine on mine.

  • TUN/TAP is enabled, not PPP here on a VM ordered this morning.
